Where it all began back in 2021 with a beetle (slide 4). I began tying my beetles with 5mm foam simply because I wanted them bigger. The issue was the foam being too thick causing the fly to lay sideways often. Rubber legs simply weren’t enough to support a giant beetle the way I wanted. I fiddled around perfecting the legs you see nowadays offering a well balanced beetle that is a blast to fish.
The beetle pictured in photo is tied on NS122 size 6 while the original tie was on a 10. Never really had a nickname for this fly other than a beetle, but I’ve been enjoying calling it the PT Cruiser. This fly has been a blast for trout & smallmouth over the years and I throughly enjoy fishing it dry dropper as well.

One of my stonefly spin offs tied on a TMC200R sz10 . This one is small for its style & skitters fantastic. Works great as a smedium stonefly & also for terrestrial season. Foam is tan 3mm & honey dun hackle.
