Microsoft detected and analyzed 8.3 billion phishing threats in Q1 2026 alone and one tactic is exploding: QR code phishing.
According to Microsoft’s latest threat report, “quishing” attacks surged 146% as attackers shifted toward QR codes to bypass traditional email security and move users onto unprotected mobile devices.
The biggest shift isn’t just the volume of attacks.
It’s how normal they look.
A QR code.
A login page.
A routine verification request.
That’s the new attack surface.
KATSH.ID Insights:
These attacks highlight a growing problem in cybersecurity: trusted access is becoming easier to manipulate.
Traditional defenses were built to scan emails, links, and devices, but attackers are increasingly targeting identity and user behavior instead.
As AI accelerates phishing tactics and social engineering, verifying the human behind the action is becoming more important than verifying the device itself.
