Our regular meeting of the Weld County Rock and Mineral society has been moved to the second Thursday in January due to the first Thursday being New Years day. Come and join us at the Greeley Active Adult Center January 8th. 6:00 PM. We will have door prizes, refreshments and a program on FOSSILS. The picture with this post is a Mammoth Molar fossil.

We had our last field trip of the year with the club. We rock hounded along the Platte River west of Kersey. We found lots of rocks including Petrified Wood, Agate Unikite, an what looks like a small piece of Malachite. We also found drift wood, Turkey feathers, river glass, shells an did some metal detecting. We had a Gold panning demonstration and hands on panning. The weather was perfect for November. All together we had about 20 members attend.

Our first outdoor club field trip this year was to Shirley Basin. 15 club members attended 16 if you count Lucy the real Rock Hound who thinks she is human. Lot and lots of rocks, horned Lizard, and Cacti. We had nice weather but headed out when the clouds started forming. Everyone found lots of nice rocks and had a nice time.

Thank you to everyone that came to our rock sale and to those that helped. We had people from as far as Rock Springs, Laramie, and Cheyenne Wyoming. We also had people from Otis, Pueblo, Fort Collins, Denver, and Arriba Colorado and Lots of representatives from Weld County. We had 2 flintknappers that found some good material for their work. One shared some of his work and showed us some knives and points he made. It was a good day and the weather was good.
