One year ago today, my cousin Joey, saved the lives of 3 people through organ donation 💙🩵💚 Joey was violently assaulted on May 27, 2025 and died as a result of his injuries. Joey was an incredible father, partner, son, brother, cousin and friend. In honor of Joey’s memory, we are focusing on the incredible ripple effect of his decision to be an organ donor, instead of the crime that took his life. A way to transmute what began from hatred, into ripples of love.
Joey saved the life of a newly married man in Philadelphia with his liver. With his right kidney, he saved a life of a young girl who lives in Illinois. With his left kidney, he saved the life of a teenage boy in Illinois, who has 4 younger siblings. Knowing that he saved these 3 lives, especially 2 children, gives us some peace out of the tragedy that took Joey from his own children.
The Joey bracelet honors the legacy of my cousin’s selfless decision to save lives.
