IN A WORLD WHERE SUPERLATIVES adorn the unexceptional and verbal vulgarity now feels normalized, I find we are becoming immune to expressions that once held meaning.
This leaves me helplessly searching for words to convey the depth of my gratitude for those countless souls whose paths I have crossed over this season of '25. Most will never know, so today I salute those who may in fact see this with words that often pass unnoticed, nonetheless offered with heartfelt sincerity.

TWO STORIES, ONE MESSAGE. These earrings were not our best sellers and yet they are a design close to my heart, paying homage to a dying breed. We have had them for a while and are selling down the last few in each stone, with no plans to continue their production. For the story behind their creation, please read on.
SOME OF THE WORLD'S GREAT ARTISTS pass unknown, subsisting mostly in poverty, living in clean huts with dirt floors, anonymous to all beyond their villages. I speak of the artisans of batik tulis.
Batik Tulis is a traditional Indonesian fabric dyeing technique where artisans hand draw intricate patterns on cloth using a canting (a pen like tool) filled with hot melted wax. The wax resists dye, which allows for many colorfully layered designs. This requires multiple cycles of waxing, dyeing and boiling (which removes the wax). The finest of these creations take anywhere from a few weeks to as much as several months to complete.
Back in the 80s I bought a batik from the home of Pak Oey Seo Tjoen, acknowledged at the time as the world's preeminent batik artisan. I foolishly made it into a shirt, torn remnants which hang limply in my closet to this day. Fast forward thirty years to a solo drive through the mountains, plains and coastal villages across the exotic island of Java in search of lost treasures. What I found made for memories both cherished and solastalgic.
The trip itself was literally awesome, a real eye opener, but that is a story I am sharing on my personal page. To my chagrin I also learned that many had abandoned their craft for the better wages found in the factories of Addidas and Nike. Yes, their exquisite skills will pass in time as will they, leaving a legacy of anonymous genius while the beauty of their art endures.

SPRINGTIME HAS ARRIVED, with Easter around the corner and Mother's Day close behind. Here is a little story of the inspiration behind these Vera Wolf designs.

They were inspired by nature, from the flowers of the earth to those celestial bodies blanketing our night sky. Warren Zevon once wrote of "the vast indifference of heaven". While that may be true, it awakens in some a profound sense of awe. It may inspire to works of beauty, to others a feeling of gratitude and comfort; to all of us at some point a silent witness to romance. Whatever it may be, we are beckoned to open our eyes to the miracles of nature. At the dawning of spring it is the very regeneration of life from the barren soil. At least that is the message that inspired these designs on the particular day of their creation. We hope you like them. ❤️
