Designer Gold Designer Gold is a small jewelry studio & gallery next to Dartmouth College, specializing in custom design, using recycled gold & conflict free diamonds.

Paul Gross, goldsmith and owner, has been making handcrafted jewelry in Hanover for nearly 50 years. Jewelry Studio and Gallery: Everything in our gallery is made here in our studio. Fine handmade jewelry by master goldsmith Paul Gross; excellent in-house fine jewelry repairs; watch battery replacement. Paul does mostly commission work -- designing your jewelry with you and then making it here in our studio. He has been in business in Hanover for over 44 years.

Join us at Designer Gold Friday, October 23, 4:30-7:00, to celebrate Paul’s 49th year in business in Hanover. Introduced to jewelry design and creation in his freshman year at Dartmouth, he learned enough there to launch a full-time jewelry career in October 1977. Our celebration will include a “Sale 49,” (October 23-31), an exhibit of jewelry made by two Dartmouth graduates who followed Paul’s path to full-time jewelry careers, and tasty treats from restaurants in the Hanover Park Building. Following Paul’s path to a jewelry career, Theodore Castellani, Dartmouth ’24 learned enough at the Byrne Family Student Jewelry studio to become a full-time designer and handcrafting jeweler. Retrospective piece: A pair of Tanzanite post earrings Paul made for a customer in 2004. Inspired by the Art Nouveau of the turn of the last century, Paul added his own twist - punched texture. The faceted Tanzanite stones complement the vine-like design.

We counted the votes for the "Show Stopper" piece for Paul's 49th anniversary in October. Here is the winner, the Watermelon Tourmaline. It was a very close race -. Thank you all who participated, online and in the gallery. Paul has said he definitely will make a pendant with this beautiful stone! Yay!

Even in the “Old Days,” cameras could create disinformation. Look at the cluster of yellow gold cylinders which seem to be bezel set with ivory disks, according to the 1977 slide camera. The “disks” are actually reflections, created by the polished tops of the 14 karat yellow gold. In the bottom row, you can see a prong-set diamond there. Paul’s gold and diamond necklace must have been stunning to look at in person.
