INFLUENCES FROM THE PAST (I presume). I think this was the first major piece I designed and made when I moved to Santa Fe. My guess is that it was made @ 1975. Sterling Silver, inlaid with turquoise, black ebony wood and walnut. The tusk was carved out of bone and inlaid with ebony as well and has three gold and silver details. In addition, it moves . The drops are ivory and jasper. This was made before ivory was frowned on for jewelry purposes. I had a few scraps left over from my college days. It was legal in those days. The right phot shows the dimensions of this piece. Parts are hollow and formed. Turquoise cabachons are set at the tops of the two silver tusks. MLooking at it in 2025, I do wonder about those “past” influences but care not to investigate too closely. It is what it is. I leave it up to your imagination.

A Special Past Endeavor! I made this piece before my son Adam was born- some 45 years ago. Hard to believe- but it’s true. It was injured and a bead was broken. Then it took several years and purchases to match the beads color and size. It’s been waiting for me to bring it back to life for many years and so now I can share it with all of you. The stone beads are Malachite and most likely came from Africa. Malachite grows in bulbulus formations and is always striped. It is a copper derivative, meaning it is found where copper is also found. The little malachite stones in the piece itself came from Arizona, found on the walls of a copper mine if I remember correctly. They are extremely rare. Malachite in embryonic states- barely birthed. The piece was fabricated in 14K yellow gold. It will be on display and for sale, along with my latest paintings at my Trunk Show - July 8th and 9th at the Colonial Inn in Harbor Springs. My latest painting- “Sunrise” Oil on Canvas 30”x 40”. During the ice storm we had the end of March, I was without power for 14 days. I went to stay with my sister who lives on Lake Huron and almost every morning the sky was lit up with impressive colors and the blinding light of the morning sun. This painting is a remembrance of those days for me.

“Trillium Time” is almost here! I love painting these flowers because like snowflakes - no two are alike. This spring I’ll be painting trillium from my yard as walking in the woods will not be possible for the most part, after the catastrophic storm we just experienced that has destroyed our beautiful forests. Oil on panel. 8”x10”.

DAY 12 - STILL NO POWER!
Many have had their power restored but not our subdivision. Not sure when they will be working on our streets, replacing all the electrical poles. Even after that I was told we might not get hooked up because of the damage to our substation. So many living in their cars who can’t get off their property because of downed trees. I was fortunate to get out when I did. Our electric company Great Lakes Energy is small, compared to Consumers. I guess they don’t have the manpower to address our catastrophic area. Certainly the linesmen are doing their best wherever they are sent. We pray they will come our way soon. Going on two weeks without power means no heat, no electricity and no water. This area is north of Teddy Griffins restaurant in Harbor Springs- one of the hardest hit areas.
