Heads up for Harrisonburg families: the Skeleton Festival is Saturday, Oct 24, and it includes a low-sensory trick-or-treat hour from noon to 1pm. That's a quieter, calmer window for kids who do better with less noise and smaller crowds. Mark it on the calendar now so it doesn't sneak up on you. If you know a family who'd appreciate it, pass it along.

First cold morning of the fall in the Burg. Harrisonburg gets its first frost earlier than any of our other towns, usually somewhere between Oct 1 and Oct 15, so this one's right on schedule. The farmers market runs Tuesdays and Saturdays through Nov 26, so there are plenty of chilly mornings ahead to enjoy it. Hope you stayed warm, and tell us where you spotted the first frost.

It's Friday night in the Friendly City, and we're pulling for the Harrisonburg High School Blue Streaks. Navy, red, and white all the way. Good luck to the players, the coaches, and the band tonight. Drop a Blue Streaks cheer below if you're heading out to the game.

Reddish K**b isn't a walk from anywhere near the store. It's a real drive, up a one-lane road called Briery Branch, and the last stretch is gravel. But at 4,397 feet it's the highest point around, and it is genuinely the spot people in this town mean when they talk about going up the mountain for sunrise or to see the stars. Not a stroll. Worth the drive anyway.
