This is what happens when you have a bored jeweler who has a lot of extra silver. We indulge our inner pyro and inner Bob the Builder and we make a little silver box!
I haven't done a lot of silversmithing since I was a young apprentice just learning how to wield a hammer! It was a lot of fun to do this little project while I was waiting for customers to come in.
The whole box is made from recycled 925 silver from the bits and pieces of scrap that I have collected over the last year. All of it melted down and rolled into the sheet I needed using my rolling mill.

Some work! Hooray!
Bubble chains and broken shanks are the words of the day today!
Most of this is the result of wear and tear, combined with infrequent trips to a Jeweler for cleaning and assessment.
I usually recommend taking your jewelry to a professional once every six months to have them looked over. Make sure it's done by the jeweler not a sales associate! Sales are good at something's but they don't have the experience to know if your shank is having issues or if your chain is about to break!

Not much work to share today. So just reposting some progress shots from old posts. Aside from handling the issues I posted about last week, we had a couple of jobs that I had to return as unworkable.

I hate declining work this close to the holiday, but I have to keep in mind not only my professional integrity, but also the integrity of the item being returned.

Hopefully they are understanding tomorrow. I don't promise I can make a repair work. I do my best within the limitations set by the product, its condition is, and what has been or not been done to it previously. I do my best to try, thats all I can promise. But sometimes people, even those in the same industry, forget that we are only human.

A few good repairs today! Unfortunately it definitely has been a quiet day, so gonna spend some time working on a side project.
Today we resized a Rose Gold Engagement ring down 1 size and tightened the center stone, and then we took 8 links out of this Diamond Tennis Bracelet and repinned the hinge so that you can't tell it was sized down!

Just a friendly reminder to clean your watches and jewelry regularly! A soft cloth, old tooth brush and warm soapy water do wonders!

This poor watch came in for a battery change and I had to tell the customer that I couldn't replace the battery unless I disassembled the watch and cleaned it first! When opening the watch any debris on the back could potentially get inside the watch and affect the movement! There was so much gunk on the back I was afraid I would damage the watch if I tried!
Normally I don't try to disassemble watches as much as I had to here, but I have taken apart Invicta's in the past so I knew what to do. Though I do not recommend doing it!
An hour later the watch is back together, all clean and with a new battery ready for another year of use.

Some quick sizings today. Pretty quiet up front for it being the Christmas season, but hopefully things will pick up as we get closer.
Interesting note, the first ring video filled is actually set with alexandrite! They're synthetic, but they're certainly pretty! I actually prefer the lighter color alexandrite over the dark red to dark green that you typically see.
The second ring is a white gold wedding band.

And finally the third ring was a P4 or Platina Engagement ring! Platina is a mixture of 925 Silver, Platinum and Palladium that can be tricky to work on, but resists tarnish much better then standard 925 silver.
