The Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston is proud to honor Kurt Rose of Reston as its 2026 Citizen of the Year, recognizing decades of service, leadership, and generosity that have strengthened the Herndon-Reston communities and improved the lives of countless families and children.
This recognition reflects Kurt's outstanding service, leadership, and meaningful contributions to our communities. Kurt exemplifies the very best of civic engagement — a person who quietly shows up, gives back, and inspires others to do the same.
Civic and Community Leadership
Kurt is a long-time Reston and Herndon community volunteer and leader, recognized for decades of service across numerous local nonprofit and civic causes.
He has served on community organization boards, including leadership with the Reston Historic Trust & Museum, helping preserve the history and spirit of the community for future generations.
Championing Literacy & Children’s Programs
One of Kurt’s most enduring contributions was co-launching the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program in Herndon in 2005 alongside fellow Rotarians. Through this initiative, thousands of local children have received free books each month — encouraging early literacy, school readiness, and a lifelong love of reading.
He continues to actively promote literacy through speaking engagements, Rotary involvement, and community outreach. In addition, Kurt co-founded and leads the nonprofit The RoSigle Community Giving Foundation, raising funds and awareness for children’s literacy programs and expanding access to books for families in need.
Philanthropy & Volunteer Service
Kurt has been a dedicated volunteer and financial supporter for numerous organizations, including:
Herndon-Reston Rotary’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library
Kids-R-First — longtime volunteer, board involvement, and golf tournament leadership
South Lakes High School PTSA Food Pantry
South Lakes and Herndon High School Bands
Cornerstones — Supporting housing and food insecurity programs
Reston YMCA
Reston Museum’s Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta
Through both hands-on service and charitable giving, Kurt consistently supports students, families facing hardship, and programs that bring the community together.
Recognition and Impact
Kurt has previously been recognized as a Best of Reston Honoree for his generosity and volunteerism. He has been instrumental in helping Rotary and many local nonprofits expand their impact and sustain meaningful community programs.
Business with a Purpose
As co-founder of Aspen Jewelry Designs in Herndon, Kurt has used his business as a platform for giving back — donating items, supporting fundraisers, and helping charitable organizations thrive.
Kurt’s impact is measured not only in programs launched or funds raised, but in children who discovered the joy of reading, families who received support during difficult times, and neighbors who felt cared for.
For his lifelong dedication to service and for the profound difference he has made in our communities, we proudly recognize Kurt Rose as its 2026 Citizen of the Year. The COTY event is scheduled for Sunday, April 26 at the Reston Community Center. More details to follow! Congratulations, Kurt Rose! Please join us in congratulating Kurt on this well-deserved honor!
