✨ FIRST LIGHT | DAY TWO ✨
Today, we illuminate The Skin Bar. 💜
The story behind this room begins with a woman who desperately needed some relief.
That woman was me.
Around the time I turned 40, I began experiencing skin problems unlike anything I’d dealt with before. Intensely itchy rashes appeared on my legs, followed by tiny, fluid-filled blisters on my hands and around my fingernails.
The itching became unbearable. I visited doctors, dermatologists, rheumatologists and allergists. I underwent allergy testing, changed my diet and tried to understand what was happening to my body.
For nearly three years, I searched for answers.
Eventually, I made my way to the University of Virginia, where I learned that I wasn’t dealing with just one type of eczema. I had THREE! 😳
I was prescribed medicated lotion, but it didn’t provide the relief I needed.
So I started researching.
I studied homemade lotion and body-butter recipes, experimented with different ingredients and taught myself how to make cold-process soaps.
Little by little, I began noticing changes.
The itching subsided. My skin started clearing. Eventually, I realized I hadn’t seen those painful little blisters on my fingers in quite some time.
After years of searching, I had finally found a skincare routine that worked for me.
And somewhere along that journey, something unexpected happened.
The Skin Bar was born. 💜
What began as a personal search for comfort became a passion for creating handcrafted body-care products and sharing the experience of intentional self-care.
Today, The Skin Bar is one of the rooms inside Ericka’s House of Elegance, offering body care, bath essentials, fragrance and little moments of everyday luxury.
Every product has a beginning. This room’s beginning was deeply personal.
