Let's talk about girdles.
No, not your grandmother's, and certainly not those modern equivalents that claim to make you a few sizes smaller. 😉 I prefer to be able to breathe. 😅
This beautiful aquamarine did not have much of a girdle. This is the part that separates the top (crown) from the bottom (pavilion). When setting stones, it is helpful to have a proper girdle size in relation to the gem's measurements so that the stone does not get chipped. The girdle can also help with some of the light properties inside the stone. For instance, this aquamarine looked rather pale before I added the girdle. (Sorry, no "Before" images to show. 🤦🏻‍♀️) After I added the girdle facets, the aquamarine seemed to liven up a lot, and even take on more color than before. You would be amazed at what good faceting can do for a gem.

Sea Glass or Citrine? 🤔
This customer's much beloved ring was in dire need of refurbishing. After the jeweler removed the 5.44 ct citrine, I was able to to a custom full recut of the crown (that's the top of the gem). Because of the unusual pattern, I needed to map out the main, kite-shaped facets in order to recreate that which was lost over the years of wear. The results speak for themselves. This is now a bright, sparkling citrine again.

The table facet is typically the largest facet of the gem, and through which light passes to show the beauty and brilliance of a stone. This lovely tanzanite was scratched, and needed polishing. I was able to complete that task in a couple days, and return it to the jeweler.

Also known as Peridot.
This juicy gem is going to finish out at approximately 9x6 mm, and around 2 cts.
Mined by the local peoples who inhabit the land, the San Carlos, Arizona peridot is a beauty to behold. It is less yellow than other peridot, and makes a lovely gem.
Whether you are an August baby, or just enjoy Granny Smith apples, this peridot will be an excellent addition to your jewelry.
