I recently participated in one of my favorite special firings called raku. There’s something magical about raku, where fire, smoke, and chance all become part of the creative process. No two pieces emerge the same, and that’s what makes it so exciting. From metallic flashes and iridescent colors to delicate horsehair patterns, every piece tells its own story.

A LONG TIME! 😂 Art is a process. And pottery is no different. I found this graphic that shows the steps it takes to complete a piece from start to finish. Although I’m in a community studio and don’t manage my own kilns or mix glazes, I do use brush-on glazes a lot and boy does that take forever! Let’s all appreciate the process together! 👏🏼🤍
