“I’m coming to observe your classroom.”

Did your shoulders tense up just reading that? 😅

Observation can feel synonymous with evaluation.

But what if we changed the question from:

“How well is this teacher performing?”

to:

“What can I learn from what I’m seeing?”

Now we’re not looking for someone to copy.

We’re noticing what works, reflecting on why, and considering what we might adapt.

Observation for professional learning should create curiosity, not anxiety.

Educators, I’d love to hear from you: What would make classroom observation feel more like learning?

What if your best professional development is already happening down the hall?

Teachers can spend years working alongside incredible educators without ever getting the chance to actually see them teach.

That’s the missed opportunity.

When we intentionally create space for teachers to observe what’s working, reflect together, and adapt those strategies to their own classrooms, professional learning becomes practical.

Not another one-and-done PD day.

Real classrooms. Real teachers. Real strategies in action.

Sometimes we don’t need to look outside our schools for excellence.

We need to make the excellence already there easier to see, share, and learn from.

What could teachers in your school learn from one another if they had the opportunity?

Your next great PD session might already be happening down the hall.

We travel to conferences. Hire experts. Attend workshops.

Meanwhile, incredible teaching may be happening a few classroom doors away.

The problem? We don’t always get to see it.

And seeing a strategy with real students can teach us things a presentation simply can’t.

The questions. The pacing. The student responses. The adjustments.

Then comes the important part:

What can I learn from this and adapt for my students?

Sometimes professional learning isn’t about bringing something new in.

It’s making what’s already working visible.

What’s something you’ve learned from watching another educator teach?

20 years in education taught me this: great professional learning should actually CHANGE what we do next.

Hi, I’m Meredith Wheeler. I’ve spent my career as an educator, coach, leader, and professional learning facilitator, and one question continues to shape my work:

How do we help educators turn what they learn into what they actually do in the classroom?

I believe growth happens when we make great practice visible, create space for reflection, and give educators practical ideas they can use...IMMEDIATELY (without 50 pull-out PD days).

That’s what I’ll be sharing here: educator growth, professional learning, leadership, and learning from one another.

If those conversations matter to you too, follow me. I’d love to have you here.
