🚨Vendor friends: NEW SCAM ALERT🚨
Friendors, unfortunately the scammers have upped their game and are now somehow getting ahold of our email addresses and emailing us as if they are event organizers who DO actually exist and are trying to get us to sign up for events that ARE actually happening. I've gotten two so far, both posing as organizers I have either communicated with or actually done events with in the past.
I'm gonna share some tips for spotting these a-holes:
⚠️Email address: Random Gmail address. I also know who the people are who run this particular organization, and that is not their email address.
⚠️Date and time formatting: This is not U.S. date and time formatting and WAT is West Africa Time. 🤦♀️
⚠️Sense of urgency: "Quick reminder," "high demand," "immediate action," "won't last long," "please message me now." (This one is really laying it on thick with the urgency.)
⚠️Grammatical issues: "Which one do you prefer to choose," "And it's Included the both table and chairs," "We'll send over your vendor confirmation back to your email immediate you’ve make your payment for your Reservation and setup details will be breakdown sealing with your confirmation." (Really, WTF on that last one? 😅)
⚠️Bonus tip: I happen to know that vendor spots for this particular event are full, so that was also helpful for me spotting this email as a hoax.
Both of the emails I have gotten have pretty much looked the same, and some others I've seen shared on social also look like this, so make a mental note of what this email looks like to make sure you don't get screwed. Scammers make me mad no matter what, of course, but they especially make my blood boil when they are trying steal money from small businesses who already operate on very small margins and can't afford to lose money to something like this. 😡
Stay safe out there, y'all. 💜
