Today, many Americans are participating in a general strike. They are choosing not to shop, work, or attend school in response to the horrific actions of our federal government. And honestly? Good.

I usually keep politics off this page because my work as a silversmith matters to me. But I’m more than just jewelry. I’m a daughter, sister, auntie, cat mom, HR consultant, fiber artist, vintage reseller, and friend. I’m part of a community and I care deeply about the people in it. The neighbors who serve my coffee, make my quesadillas, bag my groceries, and help me hunt for treasures at my favorite thrift shops? I care about their safety.

We’ve been “lucky” that ICE and CBP haven’t been very visible in my city, but they’ve been close and I keep waiting for alerts that they are finally here. I support removing actual criminals from our streets. What I cannot accept is the terrorizing of neighborhoods, masked agents, families ripped apart, and people - many here legally or following the legal process - treated as disposable.

So yes, I’m participating in today’s general strike. I will still support local small businesses because they’re fighting to stay afloat, pay rent, and support their workers, and I don’t want this protest to harm them.

I despise what our government is doing. This post may cost me followers or customers, and I’m okay with that. If you think it’s acceptable for a government to kill its own people, terrorize communities, and destroy families who have done nothing wrong, we probably shouldn’t be friends anyway. If you agree with me, please leave a note of solidarity in my comments.

This isn’t about politics.
It’s about morality.
It’s about human decency.

It was so cold today!!! Thanks to everyone who braved the frigid weather and came out to support us at Merry Market today.
