I moved into a house full of things that belonged to people I never knew.

Handwritten recipes. Old photographs. Military medals. Suitcases. Collections. Christmas decorations. A mirror engraved with a woman’s name.

Betts.

While unpacking the remains of my own former life alongside hers, I kept coming back to one word:

Remain.

What remains of a person when they’re gone?
What remains of the lives we used to live?
What remains of the versions of ourselves we had to become just to survive?

And maybe more importantly—what remains underneath all of it?

I haven’t written or published anything in two months until I put this out there a few weeks ago. I am finally able to still long enough to write again. Thought you might want to take a look before I release the next one:

15 moves in 15 years.

This week I published a piece about displacement, trauma, and what makes a place feel like home when life keeps asking you to rebuild it.

I’m learning that home is not always a permanent place. Sometimes it’s where your body can soften. Where your children can exhale. Where ordinary life begins again.

This one is called A Place Where We Can Breathe.
