We often think about energetic hygiene in terms of clearing what we've picked up from other people or environments.

But there's another form of energetic hygiene we practice every day:

Choosing what we give our attention to.

The conversations you repeatedly participate in.

The content you consume.

The accounts you scroll through.

The opinions you allow to occupy your mind.

The stories you continually tell yourself.

The conflicts you keep replaying long after they've ended.

The things you expose yourself to again and again eventually become part of the landscape of your inner world.

That doesn't mean ignoring difficult realities or surrounding yourself only with things that feel positive.

It means recognizing that your attention is valuable.

Not everything deserves unlimited access to it.

You can stay informed without consuming endlessly.

You can care about someone without carrying their problems all day.

You can acknowledge a difficult thought without rehearsing it a hundred times.

You can notice what's happening around you without allowing all of it to take up residence within you.

And you can intentionally give more attention to the things you want to cultivate:

Beauty.

Creativity.

Connection.

Nature.

Learning.

Stillness.

Ideas that expand you.

People who remind you who you are.

Where your attention goes, your inner world is shaped.
