There's a town in the Ouachita Mountains that calls itself the Quartz Crystal Capital of the World. đź’Ž And it isn't bragging.
Mount Ida sits on one of the richest deposits of natural clear quartz on the planet. People drive in from every state, pay a few dollars, and dig their own crystals straight out of the red dirt with their bare hands. Some walk out with clusters worth more than their truck payment. Most just walk out grinning, covered head to toe in Arkansas clay.
Folks pay thousands for crystals in fancy shops, when some of the best in the world are sitting in the ground a couple hours from Little Rock. So I have to ask you: have you ever dug your own, or do you know somebody who has? Drop your story below and follow Arkansas Underground for the stuff they never put in the textbooks. 👇

Hag stones have naturally formed holes, but their stories go way beyond geology.

For centuries, people believed these strange little stones could protect against evil spirits, reveal hidden things, or bring good luck.

Science says water, sand, and boring clams made the holes.

Folklore says something much stranger.

Would you keep one if you found it?

Most geodes don’t look special at all… until you crack them open. 👀

Some of the most crystal-filled treasures on Earth start out looking like ordinary dusty rocks sitting on the ground. That’s part of what makes finding one so addictive for rockhounds.

The “lighter than expected” clue surprises a lot of people too — many geodes are hollow inside, which can make them feel oddly light for their size.
