Family Diamond Set in Hand Fabricated Sterling Silver Ring Inlaid with Kyocera Opal
So, here is more an update post for everyone, since I've been a little MIA these last few months.
I got a full time job here in Tucson at a mineral wholesaler, so my schedule has completely filled up down to the minute some days. I work 8-5 in the office, then hurry home to work on jewelry from 5:30-8. This has been putting me further and further behind with my ever-growing list of repairs and customs, but I'm working on them every day, little by little!
I've been doing the markets here in Tucson on Saturdays and Sundays, at two different markets to try and see different sides of town and find more of a customer base. It's been fun, but I will admit it's been exhausting to have essentially a 7 day workweek, so I'm thinking about revisiting my schedule after the holidays. I'll have the gem show coming to Tucson soon, and with my job, I'll be crazy busy working the show. I'll probably cut out Sundays in the future, just so I can have a day off to try and catch up on all the pieces I have piled up that need repairing.
I've been learning more than I ever could have in pretty much any other position at my new job, and I'm fine-tuning my gemology skills every day! These last few months have nearly exclusively been repairs and customs, but I've found time to experiment with some of the stones we have at my job and inlay them into rings, which turn out really cool. Those have mostly been all I have time for with all my repairs, and once I get through my list, I can't wait to experiment again and make pieces with new or different stones and techniques.
I miss all my friends in Las Cruces, and I can't wait to move back in a few years! The market there was something I still miss, from my customers to my fellow vendors. I'm trying to get a weekend trip back to Cruces planned, but that won't be until after February at least.
At any rate, I'm doing very well, sometimes TOO well (and busy), and I am barreling at full throttle looking for a vacation somewhere on my horizon!
