Ah places… I’m so lucky to have lived in such beautiful places.

I currently have the privilege of living in a quaint little beach town at the jersey shore. I grew up spending every summer here but it always felt like home. And now it is my home!

I also spent 4 years going to Flagler College in St Augustine where I lived a block from the beach and only 10 minutes from the historic downtown area. I had to pinch myself daily because I couldn’t believe I was lucky enough to go to school there and live the life I was living. I could wake up and walk to the beach, hunt for shark teeth, drive to class, and then come back and do it again.

Obviously I have a deep connection to the beach. I love living by the beach even if it’s just to walk up and stare at the ocean for a couple minutes. Sitting on the beach with a good book is my happy place.

Where are you from? Curious to know where some of my different followers are located.

Okay I’m skipping a couple prompts so I can finally catch up on Meet the Maker 😬

Yesterday’s prompt was studio assistants and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share my precious fur babies.

We have Hurley who is really like the mascot of the business. He sits out in the “studio” all day and does a lot of overseeing… he’s so good he can do it with his eyes closed 😴 I’ve had him since 2012 and he’s been through so much with me. I squeeze him daily and his snuggles cure any bad day.

Then we have Fatty (aka Fats aka Buddy aka Bud) who was rescued from a life outdoors and moved to the Jersey shore where he spends most of his time laying on a Tempurpedic with fleece blankets. Talk about rags to riches 😂

And then there’s Rusty… he’s a big mop of fur who loves treats and sleeping. He’s nosy so he likes to get involved if I’m packing up for a show. I think he’s eager to come with me because he always manages to climb in the suitcase I bring to my shows.

So these are my dysfunctional furry friends 😻 I love them and my life would be far less entertaining without them.

Do you have any furry friends? I’d love to hear about them!

Day 11: what’s on my bench?

I’m planning out some new pieces so I have a little collection of stones I think I’ll be working with. I love picking a big batch of stones, sparking my creativity, and then narrowing down the chooses from there.

I also have a couple of finished pieces that just need a polish and stones set. I always have a mix of new, finished, and unfinished pieces on my bench.

And lastly, I have this horrid attempt at a basket setting 😂 it was my first ever attempt and resulted in a crooked basket and melted prongs, but now I know what to do and what not to do next time. I can’t wait to get more practice and finally nail it!

Does anything here catch your eye? What stones would you like to see me use next?

Playing catch up again because I’m the worst 😅

Friday’s prompt was details so I wanted to share one of my favorite details to add to a piece and that is TEXTURE.

Sometimes it’s a textured band, texture on the back of earrings, or texture behind a stone setting… it’s just a small way to really make a piece pop and add some extra flair to it. These are some of my favorite examples of ways I’ve added to texture into my pieces.

Do you have a favorite one? Do you like texture in your jewelry?

Day 9: Biggest hurdle/achievement

One of my biggest hurdles is always at the beginning of a project. Getting my design inspiration and then bringing that inspiration to life is always a hurdle. I struggle to start new projects unless something just pops into my head in the middle of the night or at some other inconvenient time. When I sit with a collection of stones and no idea where to begin, it’s a tough hurdle for me to jump.

Another big hurdle that I actually conquered this past year was craft shows! I knew it was something I needed to try in order to get fresh sets of eyes on my work and so I could interact with people. I was so nervous to start doing shows (I shared a picture of the first show I did last spring) but it was one of my favorite hurdles I made it over. Now I’ve done a few handfuls of shows and I love them! Sometimes you just have to take that leap and try something out of your comfort zone whether it’s in your daily life or work-related.

When’s the last time you stepped outside of your comfort zone?

Sorry I’m advance for the flood of posts today, but I’m catching up on Meet the Maker. I knew the weekend was going to be tough, but I don’t want to skip any posts so I’m just playing catch up today.

Saturday’s prompt was what’s your inspiration? I feel like this goes a little hand in hand with my aesthetic, but I definitely get a lot of inspiration from nature. Last year, I did 4 collections… one for each season and they all were heavily influenced by nature.

I love taking components from nature like flowers, butterflies, sea creatures, and even textures and working them into my pieces.

Even if my jewelry doesn’t always look beachy inspired, I definitely get a lot of inspiration from the beach because that’s where I spend most of my time when the weather is nice. Whether it’s a walk on the beach or just a day of sitting in the sun, I do a lot of brainstorming while I’m at the beach surrounded by the crashing waves and the crisp salt air.

Another huge part of my inspiration is the actual stones I work with. Sometimes I just look at some stones and the visions just come to me. If I ever feel stuck or unsure of what to make, I just start sifting through my collection of gems and that always gets my creativity flowing.

Where are some places you find inspiration in your daily life?

Day 3 and today is about my favorite styles/aesthetic. This one is so hard for me.

I love all the things. Sometimes I like small & simple. Sometimes I like the big statement pieces. Sometimes I like dark & moody pieces. Sometimes I like vibrant and colorful ones.

It’s kind of like I wear many hats… I like making jewelry that fits all those different hats. Something for every mood and every occasion.

So I think I’m still figuring out my aesthetic and my favorite styles to create. I know I love simple little details and how those little details can come together to make such a beautiful setting.

What style of jewelry do you wear usually or do you also like a little bit of everything?

Yay it’s March 1st & that means it’s time for Meet the Maker!

For the whole month of March, I’ll be following prompts & posting every day (🤞🏼)

This is such a fun way for me to open up a little more and get to connect with all of you following me. So obviously, day 1 is about connecting and where you can find me.

I’m most active on Instagram & that’s the easiest way to directly communicate with me. I sell everything on my website risingsunpieces.com (also directly linked in my bio)
But I also have a page you can like/follow.

Every bit of support you give me whether it’s a follow, like, comment, save, share, or a DM really helps me more than you know. I appreciate every bit of support and every one of you that follows along.

I’m really looking forward to this month ahead!

What’s something you’d like to know about me or something you wish I shared more of? Let me know!

I just had to share some glamour shots of these labradorite rings. These will be on the site this week as I’m planning a big site update.

It’s been a longggg time since I’ve updated my website so it’ll be nice to get some fresh beauties on there.

The flash on these is unreal. I also realize I need a long statement lab ring of my own 😂 thank goodness these don’t fit me or I’d probably have to keep them.

Which one do you prefer? The deep blue flash and tear drop shape? Or the lighter blue green and oblong shape? I have to go with the oblong one… it definitely has my heart.
