The majestic pattern of the Samarkand Blue is derived from one of the interior domes of the Registan Square in the city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The blue-white variegated pattern at the center fades to inky black at the dial periphery. Hands and hour markers in white complete this striking design.

We’re excited to introduce our latest offering! - the Zellij Sitara - زليج سِتَاره

A star motif floats above a visible Eastern Arabic date wheel - white indices over a slate gray ring complete the dial that provides a contrast between modern and traditional design elements.

In addition to highlighting the beauty of Arabic numerals - the dial is an exploration of the contrast between “fast” and “slow” time - the visible date wheel allows the viewer to consider the progression of days within the month. An awareness that has special meaning within the Islamic Lunar Calendar.

The word Sitara سِتَاره traditionally holds the dual meaning of both star and also veil or covering - as in the “veil of stars.” 🌌

Applied lume on the hands, indices, dial and date wheel provides a striking appearance in low-light conditions. A display caseback with engraved rotor, a polished front bezel, engraved crown and black or olive brown granola leather strap completes the package.

Powered by a Seiko NH35 Automatic movement that is fashioned with a copper custom engraved rotor. Sapphire crystal overlays a blue variegated dial that fades to an inky black at the edges.

The mesmerizing inwoven dial pattern is derived from the interior domes of the Registan Complex in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. This watch pays tribute to a city - Samarkand - that was a crossroads of science, art and learning. A jewel on the legendary Silk Road.

We have all been shocked and heart-broken by the images coming out of the Gaza strip in the last few weeks. In solidarity with those suffering our company would like to make a contribution to the support to those i need. Towards this end Castle & Gazelle Watches will donate 25% of all sales through the end of the year to United Nations relief effort in Palestine (UNRWA).

The pattern on the beautiful Zellij Blue is derived from the stonework of the fountains of the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco. This pattern evokes the flow of water and the balance of open air and stone which renders a sense of subtle balance to visitors of this stunning modern Masjid.

Its name is a tribute to Zellij a distinctive style of tilework or mosaic art that is commonly found in Islamic architecture, particularly in North Africa - Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. Skilled artisans carefully cut and arranged each tile by hand, creating stunning and mesmerizing designs. The use of vibrant colors and the geometric precision of the patterns make zellij a unique and visually striking form of decorative art in Islamic architecture. The word "zillīj" (زليج) is derived from the verb "zalaja" (زَلَجَ) meaning "to slide."
