If you’re curious, this is how wax turns into metal! We put the wax designs on these “trees”, place in a plaster crucible, melt the wax away, leaving a mold in the plaster, which we then pour molten metal into! Tada! Then the not so fun part of cleaning, cutting, filing & polishing. Finished up with a dip in the plating bath and straight to you! Or, if there’s stones to be set, that’s another step before plating…

Hello. It’s me. Save for an ear here and there, I’m a little camera shy in the studio. So, in an effort to show more of “how the sausage is made” here I am, in my craft, carving a very special engagement ring. Everything I make starts in wax and comes straight from my brain, through to my fingers, without much thought. I’ve never been much for pre-planning, mostly letting a stone or shape of the wax lead the way. It’s my meditation, it’s where my intuition takes over, it’s where I speak a language that otherwise doesn’t have any words. I’m told it’s art, but I’ve never really felt that way. It’s wax and tools and fire and metal. But it does feel like home and where my body can truly relax.
