During a recent Southern California estate clean-out, Melrose Treasures Estate Sales Los Angeles uncovered an extraordinary preserved archive relating to fallen California Highway Patrol Officer Daniel James Muehlhausen (1966–1997), who was killed in the line of duty while serving with the CHP.

The archive, preserved by the family for decades, includes Officer Muehlhausen’s original CHP Stratton campaign hat in original box, memorial plaques, official proclamations, CHP academy autobiographical writings in his own hand, funeral and memorial materials, period CHP insignia, and related California Highway Patrol historical ephemera.

One particularly interesting detail is the original Sun Badge Co. San Dimas California maker-marked hat badge, produced before the company later relocated to Ontario, California.

As an estate sale and liquidation company, we are continually amazed by the important pieces of California history and personal family stories that sometimes emerge during estate projects.

This large painting is an exact copy of one of Murillo’s Madonna compositions, and the level of precision immediately stood out to us.
