Hello, everyone! I am leading a beading circle at this summer. This beading circle will also include a conversation on jewelry in Native American Indigenous cultures. I am going to lead students on how to create a traditional hairpipe choker necklace and its significance. While creating their own treasures, the beading circle will host a conversation about beadwork traditions in American Indigenous cultures, how the art expanded over time, and its place in living history. Bring your friends and let’s get to beading! Details below.

I have a good ear about these things, but using these larger beads provided a healthy challenge. In the mean time, I’m pretty happy with how this turned out. ‘Gotta thank my sister for recommending me to make glass gem huitlacoche. I have an idea on what to do for the other two now!🐻🌽

I am learning to include larger samples of the techniques I am teaching in workshops, and there’s no better way than the large pony beads. This is the same DNA Strand Cord stitch for the Spanish shawl pattern. And of course I had to sneak a little glow-in-the-dark in there, too!

I had such a lovely time leading a beading circle again for . This year’s workshop took the theme of (Re)Imagine to turn beads into a dedication to the humble Californian native nudibranch, the Spanish Shawl! Attendees practiced methods of mindfulness and kept themselves present-minded while learning the elements of beadwork and the DNA Strand Cord stitch to make this stunning charm. Much like the fluorescent cutie itself, this charm is curled and flushed with its neon cerata!

Each charm is the size of a Spanish shawl nudibranch, and yes, they glow under uv-light! This aesthetic appreciation of these dancing cuties remind us of our underwater relatives.
