HIS GLORY WAS VEILED
The Song of Solomon 1:5, the king sees a black, but comely woman, black as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon. We have already shared the allusions to God’s sanctuary that are found in this book. We know the Scripture about the “daughter of Zion” being a comely and delicate woman, Jeremiah 6:2. Friends, we would like to suggest that what Solomon was seeing was the beautiful wilderness sanctuary that he was about to transform into a permanent and glorious structure!
This whole book, this Song of Songs, is about Christ’s love for His church!
The Bible tells us that Moses was instructed to put layers over the beautiful gold structure, with a badger’s skin waterproof top. The badger is not the what we think of in North America, a powerfully defensive and strong mammal, but it refers to an extinct amphibious seal, which was BLACK.
So, to envision the sanctuary, think of a 50 foot long box covered in a black covering. It doesn’t sound attractive does it? No, there was no beauty in Him, that we would desire Him.” Isaiah 53:2.
But when you enter beyond that veil….WHAT GLORY! UNSURPASSED in radiance, and brillant with the light of the Holy Spirit in the mennorah, and the Shekinah. Amazingly glorious gold panels that reflect the rainbow hues of the curtains! Angels reflect His glory in those curtains. It is a new and living way, Hebrews 10:20. Something we didn’t expect, something we never deserved! Yes, our precious Jesus veiled His glory, His divinity was veiled in humanity.
If you go outside and stare at the sun, you will go blind. Our Lord wore a filter, so we could see Him AND LIVE!!! So, as the penitent seeker looks through that outer veil, he can see something of the reflected glory in the first colors he passes through. Then as he enters the courtyard, he sees the luxuriously embroidered veil leading into the Holy Place. It all points to Jesus, He is the WAY, the Truth, and the Life. There is only ONE WAY. Not through eastern religions, meditation, or another prophet. There is ONLY ONE WAY into the throne of God. Acts 4:12, John 14:6. We may boldly enter, my friends.
As we behold Jesus in the sanctuary, we will become changed, 2 Corinthians 3:18 tells us.
Moses saw His glory in the burning bush, and on Mt. Sinai, in the cleft of the rock. It caused his face to shine. Elijah saw God’s fire on Mt. Carmel. At Pentecost, the disciples were filled by tongues of fire. Ponder Revelation 18:1. The whole earth will be full of His glory! Yes, we can behold His face and be changed into His radiant likeness! May God bless His church with His Holy Spirit, as we behold the One who is altogether lovely, the Chiefest Among Ten Thousand, our Brother, our Friend, our God!
