Bye Mitzpe Ramon! A safe oasis in the middle of chaos.
Yesterday we had to make some decisions. They kept changing as we wanted to ponder all of our options. One was to cross the border to Jordan and hope that we would get on our flight from Amman to Geneva on Monday. We ditched that because it wasn’t a solid one. The border was only open until 2pm yesterday and there’s no guarantee that the airspace stays open. To my understanding it was closed since the first attacks and opened yesterday morning.
We were hoping to get a boat taking us to Cyprus where was ready to receive us with open arms, but that wasn’t an option. Israeli airspace stays closed until further notice.
We decided to get a driver and drive down south to Eilat, cross the border to Egypt, drive to Sharm-El-Sheikh, snorkel for a day, sleep over, catch a flight to Milano, spend a day touring and then fly home.
We’re on our way down to Eilat right now.
As we were leaving, some pilots walked in to the hotel. They smiled and wouldn’t admit being pilots but the F-16i patch on the sleeve of their overalls revealed a lot. In the next sentence they said that they were looking for a place where to sleep between their flights(!). They politely declined a photo with us, but were happy to hear that we had been cheering every time we heard them taking off. The air base is fairly close to the hotel and the first day we heard the fighter jets constantly. Godspeed boys!
