Exchange61 Jewelry Designs

Exchange61 Jewelry Designs Finding beauty in the broken, that's my purpose. Jewelry made from broken or damaged vintage dishes (Pyrex, Fire King, etc. Welcome to exchange61!

and china) is my main focus, but I also create portrait jewelry from your treasured photos. Here’s a little about my business. We all hate to see our vintage beauties end up damaged or broken. Instead of throwing them away, you can mail your broken dish to me and I will create a piece of wearable art! This system has a 3 fold purpose. It reduces waste by keeping it out of the landfill, it gives me

raw materials to work with and in exchange, I will send you a finished piece of jewelry! I use quality lead free/nickel free metal components and hand cut/shape each piece of broken glass. I realize that some of my clients have metal sensitivities so I offer .925 sterling silver options. In the instance of someone wanting sterling components, I give a credit towards the sterling upgrade. So here’s my “Beauty in the Broken” swap program in a nutshell. You pay to ship your broken dish to me. In exchange for your broken dish, I will design a piece of jewelry and ship it to you. The trade is for a pendant or earrings, but bracelets and rings are available for an additional charge. Another aspect of what I do is portrait jewelry! It be an old photo of your grandparents that is faded and worn with age or a cell phone picture that you just adore and everything in between, I can take those images and create custom jewelry for you! You can tag a photo on Facebook, e-mail the file or if you're local, we can meet up and I can scan your picture if needed. I use jeweler grade resin to seal the products, making them beautiful and durable for years to come. I love the idea of lockets, keeping your loved ones photo close to your heart, but I prefer being able to show my pictures off, so I came up with the concept of an "inside out" locket. A portrait pendant in different varieties that showcases your image in a stylish way. How fun is that? I also have rings and bracelets and key chains. I also offer hand stamped pendants, featuring vintage silver spoons, along with other metal stamping blanks, and essential oil diffuser necklaces. Follow me on Instagram for sneak peeks and sales, .

The amazing organizer has offered to collect it for me and I’ll make the trip to Oklahoma to bring it kt back to the studio in Missouri to remake it! Please include your name, address, email and description of your broken dish. You’ll receive a finished piexe of jewelry and know that your dish has been given new purpose!

Collector plates. Some things lose their appeal when you think of their original purpose but when you look at them through new eyes, it’s a beautiful thing. Here’s a way to show that you love these wonderful whiskered creatures with one of a kind fabulous feline jewelry. See one that looks like one of your cats and want to reserve it? Comment on that picture and let me know which one you want. The bigger ones will be pendant but the smaller ones could be pendants, rings, or a bracelet. I can also use the florals on the plates but my main focus will be the cats. The sale of these pieces will help fund replacement of my “cat taxi”, my small SUV that I used for TNR transport, equipment and rescue work. My SUV bit the dust and was irreparable, so I’m driving our Camry. I want to be able to pay cash for whatever I find to replace it, so these sales will help out. I’ve got sterling settings too if you’d like! I’d love for you to share this so that we can get back to the rescue work I love to be part of.

Giving Tuesday is coming up. I’d love to encourage you to donate to the Rescue One Medical Facility so that they can purchase more IV drip machines and other lifesaving equipment. So many animals have been saved here in the Ozarks

Friends of our clinic - Please consider making a donation to Rescue One for our Giving Tuesday fundraiser at https://rescueonespringfield.com/donations/giving-tuesday2023/. We desperately need more IV pumps for our clinic as we have more hospitalized patients than pumps. All donations are tax deductible and WILL save lives. Thanks for your consideration!

My sweet friend Jamie is an absolutely incredible silversmith. I’d love for you to check out her work, she’s taking commissions right now. I’m waiting on just the right broken glass to come along that speaks to me, I’ll create the cabochon and then have her make a bespoke piece with it. I just wish the Early American cat wasn’t brown, because that kitty would be a ring!

The holidays are here! If you would like a custom piece in time for Christmas please get with me by 12/1/23. 🎄

I’m finishing up some work for my photography clients but stay tuned this week for a little twist on what I’ve offered in the past. Hint, it is a nod to my love of vintage Christmas!

I’m excited to share with you that my jewelry will be available to purchase in person soon at The Antique Mercantile in Marshfield, MO. Located just a few hundred feet from historic Route 66, this antique mall has over 150 amazing vendors and is worth a trip! Once my space is open, I’ll post and let you know, maybe even do a giveaway! I’ve already got some pieces ready but would love to know what patterns you’d like to see if you were out shopping and found broken dish jewelry “in the wild”. Here’s a photo of a custom order I did for a client. This service is still available and I can even meet you at the Mercantile to pick up your sad glass (the perks of living 3 minutes away,).

Happy Thanksgiving from exchange61! I’ve got some ready to sell jewelry at Papa and Nana’s in Marshfield but will be working on custom orders next week. If you’ve sent me glass in the past couple of months, be on the lookout for your package soon. It’s been a tough year, too many losses in my family, but we will make it through. I’m thankful for the opportunity to create beautiful things out of your sad glass. It brings me joy and I hope it does the same for you.

"My foster dog stinks to high heaven. I don’t know for sure what breed he is. His eyes are blank and hard. He won’t let me pet him and growls when I reach for him. He has ragged scars and crusty sores on his skin. His nails are long and his teeth which he showed me are stained.

I sigh.

I drove two hours for this. I carefully maneuver him so that I can stuff him in the crate. Then I heft the crate and put it in the car. I am going home with my new foster dog.

At home I leave him in the crate till all the other dogs are in the yard. I get him out of the crate and ask him if he wants ‘outside.’ As I lead him to the door he hikes his leg on the wall and shows me his stained teeth again.

When we come in he goes to the crate because that’s the only safe place he sees. I offer him food but he won’t eat it if I look at him, so I turn my back. When I come back the food is gone. I ask again about ‘outside.’ When we come back I pat him before I let him in the crate, he jerks away and runs into the crate to show me his teeth.

The next day I decide I can’t stand the stink any longer. I lead him into the bath with cheese in my hand. His fear of me is not quite overcome by his wish for the cheese. And well he should fear me, for I will give him a bath.

After an attempt or two to bail out he is defeated and stands there. I have bathed four legged bath squirters for more dog years than he has been alive. His only defense was a show of his stained teeth that did not hold up to a face full of water.

As I wash him it is almost as if I wash not only the stink and dirt away but also some of his hardness. His eyes look full of sadness now. And he looks completely pitiful as only a soap covered dog can. I tell him that he will feel better when he is cleaned. After the soap the towels are not too bad so he lets me rub him dry. I take him outside. He runs for joy. The joy of not being in the tub and the joy of being clean. I, the bath giver, am allowed to share the joy. He comes to me and lets me pet him.

His skin is healing. He likes for me to pet him. I think I know what color he will be when his hair grows in. I have found out he is terrified of other dogs. So I carefully introduce him to my mildest four legged brat. It doesn’t go well.

Two weeks later a new vet bill for an infection that was missed on the first visit. He plays with the other dogs.

Three weeks later he asks to be petted. He chewed up part of the rug.

Eight weeks later his coat shines, he has gained weight. He shows his clean teeth when his tongue lolls out after he plays chase in the yard with the gang. His eyes are soft and filled with life. He loves hugs and likes to show off his tricks, if you have the cheese.

Someone adopted him today ....When they saw him the first time they said he was the most beautiful dog they had ever seen.

Six months later I got a call from his new family. He is wonderful, smart, well behaved and very loving. How could someone not want him? I told them I didn’t know. He is beautiful. They all are."
