Blue Drop Earrings. These are some of my new process of enameling gemstones in place. I have been experimenting with different colours, gemstones and vitreous enamels! This pair is a frosty pale blue with magical fiery Moissanite embedded throughout the enamel. I took the process of sand casting gemstones in place and thought I would give it a whirl with enamels and I am smitten! There is still experimenting to be done and colours to be explored! Stay tuned! ✨🩵✨

Memento mori is the Latin phrase meaning “remember death.” In this weekend workshop siblings scottie and Brienna Hall teach the ancient practice of sand casting intertwined with ritual and intention.

Through metalworking, fire, and guided ceremony, students cast a personal keepsake imbued with meaning and memory. Participants will explore the history of sand casting and be guided through the process from cradle to grave: making a mold, safely using a torch, casting with molten metal, and finishing a bespoke piece.

This is an invitation to reflect on impermanence, grief, and loss. We will look to death as a teacher, hold life gently as students, and remember that we too will die.

Participants are encouraged to bring a cherished object, cremains of a loved one, symbolic material, or a personal offering to incorporate into their piece. As part of our two-day ritual, teachers and students will co-create an altar and ceremony to honor the significance of the memento mori practice.

This workshop is open to all levels of experience. The only prerequisite is a willingness to reflect on the impermanence of life through ritual, storytelling, memories, and art making.

Brienna Hall is a jewelry artist and educator based in Mendocino, California, with a BFA in Sculpture and a minor in Fiber Arts from the Kansas City Art Institute. Through her practice, Shrine Jewelry, she explores themes of memory, impermanence, and transformation using sand casting, fabrication and recycled precious metals. Brienna teaches regularly in California and loves the joy and spontaneity that sand casting brings—she’s passionate about sharing that excitement through teaching and helping others create meaningful, personal work.

“This was my very first time creating something from sand casting. I was a little bit nervous to try it because I really didn't know what to expect. With the excellent guidance from the artists teaching the class, it was very easy to catch on and I actually created a test piece and a keepsake to remember my youngest son, who passed away when he was 12 years old.”

“The poetry and readings as we gathered around the altar beginning and ending each day. Sharing the love and memories of the ones we are missing and grieving for. The gentle encouragement each of us received when something didn't go quite right. Realizing I could learn this ancient art of sand casting in a weekend! WOW!!”

I am so honoured to have my image St. Lucy selected to participate in SMCK magazine’s issue on Mythology and corresponding exhibition Fragments at Aygo Avgo Art Space.
“Myths encapsulate the human experience, transmitting multi-layered messages through symbols, enigmas, and often non-linear or even contradictory narratives. Once all elements are added up, myths make sense, and their wisdom leads to a better understanding of the rules of existence.

A similar structure can be found in other cultural expressions of the laws ruling human life, such as fairy tales, Tarot cards, or the Dada and Surrealist movements. It is no coincidence that myths labeled the theories of the pioneering explorers of the unconscious and offered an explanation for the perpetual phenomena dominating the human psyche. Myths, fairy tales, Tarot cards, and modern art movements share a deeper bond: they are fragments of human experience, dreams, and thoughts, outlining the memory of what is lost or forgotten over time.

The exhibition FRAGMENTS features twenty-seven international artists examining how myths resonate with contemporary aspirations and agonies. The artists employ the mediums of jewelry, objects, sculpture, textiles, photography, digital media, collages, or assemblage to give a new twist to archaic testimonies and open new channels for their own imaginary narratives.

FRAGMENTS also pays tribute to its host town, presenting the history of Leonidio and its pioneering merchant class through a visual labyrinth. This labyrinth is composed by historical photographs taken between 1880 and 1970 in reputable photographers’ studios in Greece, Egypt, the Ottoman Empire, and the USA, enriched by amateur shots taken with pocket cameras to commemorate community events.

FRAGMENTS is the second part of the exhibition and video project THREE MYTHS FOR ATHENS, which took place at the Goethe-Institut Athen and SMCK Art Space in Athens in May 2026. The exhibition is curated by Loukia Richards and Christoph Ziegler.” Photo by me Brienna Hall Photography hand colored medium format gelatine silver print and digital collage Jewelry: Halo Necklace, Ligare Necklace, Web Necklace

I'm excited to be co-teaching with the wonderful Hanna-Katarina for two workshops that are perfect for all levels of metalsmithing this month at the Mendocino Art Center.

✨ August 22–23: Metalsmithing & Symbology — Explore jewelry-making while creating meaningful, symbolic adornment inspired by your own stories and intentions.

✨ August 29: Keum-Boo Workshop — Learn the ancient Korean technique of fusing 24k gold foil to fine silver, an accessible and beautiful way to add rich gold accents to your work.

I am so honoured to have been selected for Fiber Art Now magazine’s Summer issue and featured in Fiber Reimagined IV. My Halo necklace is highlighted and will also be included in the show at Gravers Lane Gallery Hand-knit from sterling silver and finished with hundreds of hand-cut, drilled, and individually welded 14k gold-filled discs, the Halo Necklace beautifully catches and reflects light. I’m continually inspired by knitting and crocheting with metal chain—the drape, weight, and fabric-like movement is so tactile and seductive. ✨ Deep gratitude to Fiber Art Now and everyone involved in Fiber Reimagined IV for including my work. 📸 by Brienna Hall Photography ✨
