One of our customers spent weeks teaching himself metalworking from scratch, just to hand-make his fiancée's engagement ring. No jewelry background. No formal training. Just grit, a lot of metal, and a vision he wouldn't let go of, and neither could we.
What started in his own hands ended up finished in ours, forged in love long before it ever reached our bench.

Here's the full story:
"There should really be more than 5 Stars as an option for the folks at Kirk and Company. I decided a while back that I could figure out how to make an engagement ring for my fiancé. I'd never made jewelry or worked with metal before, but things as trivial as not knowing what the hell I'm doing has rarely stop me from doing anything.
I wasted a lot of expensive metal, and after weeks of trial and error, I finally got the shape I was looking for.
Then the diamond arrived.
As I was looking at this very expensive pebble that I had no backup plan for, and starting to understand just how intricate a process setting a stone in a ring is, I realized I'd reached the limit of my new skill set. The problem was I'd almost run out if time. With four days until we were set to leave on vacation where I planned on proposing, I had a roughed out band and a loose diamond. It was time to get professional help.
I first went to a jeweler in Montgomery who said very bluntly, we dont accept personal projects.
Next I went to a jeweler in Mason who was much more discouraging. She looked at my work, laughed, and made it a point to remind me several times I was no jeweler before telling me there was nothing she could do for me and I should have just bought a ring from them like a normal person. On my way out she was nice enough to suggest "a little shop in Milford called Kirk and Company who might be able to fix my mess."
I got to Kirk and Company the next morning fully prepared to get laughed out of the shop. What I got was the opposite.
When you walk into Kirk and Company, the first thing you feel is a sense of genuine, classic craftsmanship. The second is a sense that you are actually welcome there.
I started explaining the situation and braced for the bad news. Hannah, the sales manager asked to see the ring and the stone. She examined both and then asked, "so you've done this sort of work before?" I told her I never had. She didn't laugh or criticize. Instead she told me it was remarkable that a first time attempt at jewelry turned out so well. She inspected the diamond and then complimented my selection, never insinuating that I should have bought from them instead of a gem broker.
She took my band and diamond into the back room and returned with two professional jewelers in tow. They introduced themselves and said, "we're the guys who are going to save your ass and get this stone set before you fly out!"
I've never been so relieved! The jewelers even complimented me on my work and said there wasn't much they needed to do between what I'd finished and returning a completed project before the deadline.
They not only delivered the exact vision I had for my fiancé's ring, they completed it a day ahead of schedule!
