Looking for something simple, yet bold? Are you drawn to hand crafted art, jewelry and accessories that are both practical and beautiful?

Inspired by the natural beauty of minerals and botanicals, I create adornments for body, home and life using stones I cut & polish, settings I design and metalsmith, as well as botanical elements I cast in silver, bronze and gold from plants that I grow. Your Vital Element is waiting for you. I work with natural stone and crystal mined from around the world. Each stone is hand-selected and carefully curated, giving you the best fit in each piece I design. To keep my prices reasonable and my pieces accessible, I collaborate with other skilled artisans in helping me finish raw stones and electroplate items in silver and gold. Playing with a verdigris patina on bronze botanicals and loved how this custom pair for one of my favorite clients, Deena Nakata came out!

Verdigris is the name of a particular patina that naturally develops over time with weathering and age on any alloys containing enough copper to oxidize - think the Statue of Liberty!

Just like that, the yellow bronze such as the one we use for casting botanicals has enough copper to allow for this stunning oxidation when exposed to different chemicals.

Once removed from exposure, cleaned and dried, the result is both beautiful and safe to wear, though I do remove any verdigris from areas that touch skin, so the copper oxide layer doesn’t rub off.

I further finish these pieces around client preference- such as burnishing and sealing the surface for a colorful and glossy appearance or artfully removing some of the verdigris for a semi-bright, yet aged-artifact look, as requested on this particular pair of earrings.

It’s almost Studio Sunday again! We’ve been having so much fun visiting with everyone who stops by, thanks for making every weekend so full of gems and joy!

If you’re new to our page, we offer walk-in shopping every other Sunday from 10am-4pm during the Farmer’s Market season of May-Oct (alternating with Sundays at the Milwaukie Farmer’s Market). We are also available by appointment Tues-Fri afternoons.

This Sunday we’ll have a fresh batch of botanical earrings to choose from, as well as a number of gorgeous botanical components available for custom orders, such as the one featured today! Modeled on our beautiful collector Jamie, this silver cedar & herkimer diamond necklace is a statement piece that lets you carry part of the PNW with you wherever you go. 🌲

It’s time to wind up for Spooky Season! We’re kicking it off with some crafty goodness in September.

The first of our Halloween workshops is the Spooky Tree Workshop on Saturday, Sept 26th at 1pm.

This class is great for beginners and experienced crafters alike. We’ll be guiding you through making a custom tree skirt with the theme of tour choice (Witchy, Haunted, Harvest, Spooky Before Christmas and more!), then we’ll walk you through decorating the perfect Halloween Tree with a curated selection of handmade ornaments, garlands and festive lights.

It’s almost Spooky Season!! We’re excited to offer our very first Spooky Tree Workshop with three different themes you get to choose from!

You’ll also have the option of crafting your own tree skirt or reserving one of five designs we’ve curated for the class.

We will also have kits available and some special add/ons that will be available the day of the event.

Registration will open tomorrow, Tuesday 8/25 and spots are limited, so we recommend signing up early. Plus, crafting is always better with a friend, so we’re offering $5 off when you register for 2 or more! Discount is automatically added at checkout. 🖤

Something spooky this way comes… And we can’t wait!

It’s almost time for our Halloween Workshop Series! First up is our Halloween Tree Workshop - Hosted at The Vital Element Atelier and led by the project’s creators, Anna & Diane.

You’ll have several spooky themes to choose from when designing your tree, PLUS this class offers a bonus option if you’d like to also craft your own tree skirt before the main class, otherwise a selection of completed tree skirts will be available to you.

Had an opportunity to transform a friend’s cuff into a talisman necklace and I LOVE how it turned out! I accented the necklace with small, flashy labradorite beads to compliment the pendant and she loved it ❤️
