MAISON K in Santa Barbara, California is an ever-changing, artful expression of the best home furnishings, gifts, clothing and accessories from around the world. From Santa Barbara to Paris and Istanbul, Kimberly Phillips’ love of art, history, culture and design takes her across the globe in search of treasures old and new, all carefully edited and showcased to inspire and please her discerning clientele. She is partial to fine materials and fibers, expressed in a “neutrals and naturals” palate. Exotic woods, mother of pearl shell, sterling silver, hand-blown glass, natural cowhides, luxurious silk and Tibetan cashmere are expertly worked into sensual, textural and varied creations. Antique shell and bone inlay mirrors from Syria, Astier de Villatte ceramics from France, hand-blown chandeliers from Italy, and felted silk scarves from Uzbekistan live harmoniously with silver serving trays from Morocco, Byzantine style jewelry from Turkey, and hand-loomed wool blankets from the United States.

They’ve arrived! An incredible assortment of velvet jackets, meticulously hand embroidered with silk threads, each a most striking color combo. Made in Marrakech, meticulously tailored. No need to save these beauties for a special occasion, just drape one around your shoulders and go! I’m also tickled with this cactus silk shoulder bag - such a great style statement! We just received a giant box from Marrakech with these and other treasures ready to be unpacked. Hope to see you soon! Come place a custom order from this stunning Spring cashmere collection. Richard Grand is visiting us from Paris with a select assortment of gorgeous blazers, pea coats, sweaters and more. Made in Italy of the finest materials, wrought with wonderful detailing. My favorite pieces are the ones in this video, an ecru cashmere sweater with seaside motifs of scallop shell, anchor, starfish and more meticulously hand embroidered. Through the half light of dusk this lovely linen dress emits a subtle glow. This textured fabric is in a very unusual shade which I’m calling mist, detailed with bands of matching lace. Lovely for summer I also imagine it with a fluffy cashmere sweater for cooler days. This new line is made in Positano of a woven linen in two tone threads. In this capsule collection there is this dress, a cute jacket, skirts & scarf. The exquisite tasseled, cashmere wrap is a MK classic on order soon in classic neutral shades. The perfect weight it’s not too light and not too heavy. Shot at the Belvedere adjacent to Punta Tragara Hitel with the magnificent farraglioni beyond. The choker is hand hammered brass from Marrakech. There are so many incredible things en route to the shop, in addition to the great assortment already there. We’ll resume our regular hours 11-5 on Friday October 9!

I’ve carried these gorgeous silk embroidered cashmere dusters for years, and this new collection is exceptional. Even though the color palette of this group says Spring/Summer I’ve learned not to pass up things of beauty when I see them, regardless of season as often I can’t get them again. We will received this new collection in a couple of weeks and whether you use them for resort this winter or save till spring, you’re sure to cherish these stunning conversation worthy pieces. There are two lengths and several incredible new designs with classic Turkish floral motifs; swirling tulips , carnations and vines, a veritable garden of delight. You’ll see similar motifs in the exquisite tile work in the mosques and Topkapi Palace. The mini photo shoot here capped off my whirlwind 2 days in Istanbul - couldn’t leave without using this spectacular backdrop of the Blue Mosque (named so for it’s extraordinary blue & white tiles) for a few images in spite of the rain! Taking a time out in a pretty blouse found in Paris at one of the loveliest hotels ever Hotel du Quai Voltaire. The interiors are exquisite, with perfect details including a small library. I enjoy staying in different neighborhoods on my journeys and had not stayed on the Seine before. It’s a central location, with surrounded by wonderful shops and restaurants, easy access to museums and conveniently situated next to one of my favorite restaurants in the world Le Voltaire - Restaurant - which as you probably surmised, is named for Voltaire who lived in an upstairs apartment. The embroidered peasant blouse I’m wearing is perfect for the transitional season we are in and available at the shop now! It pairs well with denim, black or ecru. Along with this pretty blouse we have several new collections for Fall/Winter in shearling, wool and cashmere. Hope to see you soon these pieces are going remarkably quickly!

As many of you know, Suzani textiles are amongst my favorite and most treasured textiles of the world! These charming, one of a kind pieces showcase the expertise, soul and creative expression of their makers. I buy them in Istanbul, but they are made in Uzbekistan a vast country in Central Asia. They are festooned with traditional motifs of fruit and florals symbolizing abundance and fertility. Often used as table cloths, others use them as drapes, bed covers, pillow cushions or wall hangings. Our collection of bright white glazed ceramics made in Paris look fantastic with all the different colors and patterns. Astier de Villatte ceramics are handmade in Paris in an unending array of shape and form. Reach out for more details!

We always have a beguiling array of fashion jewelry in store and this capsule collection of aquamarine is noteworthy. We’re all talking about The Odyssey and I imagine that Odysseus and his men wished they’d had aquamarine on board to protect them! In addition to the various aquamarine jewelry shown above, there are pink amethyst, yellow citrine, baroque pearls, turquoise and more to be discovered. This jewelry designs are inspired by the Byzantine and Renaissance eras, its gold plate, set with incredible stones and pearls.

It was an enchanting evening. Last week, LA Dance Project formally launched The Santa Barbara Fund for New Choreography at Bellosguardo. Founded by Benjamin Millepied and Jennifer Smith, this initiative is dedicated to creating new dance works inspired by Santa Barbara’s rich cultural landscape. Guests were treated to extraordinary performances set against an open air back drop of giant cypress framing the sea beyond. The dancers; great athletes, moved with incredible expression and grace. Birds called, dragonflys cavorted and we were in rapt attention of the music and movements, which included an extraordinary surprise performance by Millepied. What struck me most was the sense of joie de vivre, dancing outside without theater or costume making the expression of dance somehow more immediate, a reminder that dance is a living art form, a marvel to witness, but can be practiced by all, regardless of ability or skill. There is movement and expression innate in us if we make the time and space. A dance a day is my new goal in life!

I’m wearing one of our extraordinary dresses from Greece. They have such a beautiful flow and are extremely easy and comfortable to wear. We have several left in the collection; one is gold and white, another gold and bronze, the last is turquoise, gold, green and white. They require very simple accessorizing as the gowns are simply, so fabulous! I’m wearing a pair of Maltese style earrings from Italy MAISON K | Montecito, velvet sandals custom made in Capri Dani Costanzo, and a Kelly belt Hermès. I hope you can come visit soon and enjoy our summer collections before they are sold out, making way for the new season.
