Thirty years today.
Pearl is the traditional gift for a 30th anniversary — formed slowly, layer by layer, under pressure.
Diamond is the modern one — strong, clear, and made to last.
Both feel right for us.
What started as a guy making jewelry for the woman he loved became Dylan Rings… and somehow, through all of it, we built a life and a business side by side.
Grateful for every year, every piece, and every ordinary day that turned out to be anything but.

🍂 OCTOBER HAS TWO BIRTHSTONES… AND THERE’S A STORY BEHIND THAT! 🍂

If you’re an October baby, you get to choose between two seriously fascinating gems: OPAL & TOURMALINE. 💕✨

Opal is the traditional October birthstone, famous for that wild flash of rainbow color called play-of-color. Ancient Romans considered opal one of the most powerful and precious gems because it seemed to contain the colors of all the other gemstones. And in old Arabic lore, opals were said to have fallen from the heavens in flashes of lightning! ⚡️

Then there’s pink tourmaline, October’s newer birthstone. Tourmaline comes in an almost ridiculous range of colors, which is fitting because its name comes from a word meaning “mixed-colored stones.”

Here’s a little-known fact: tourmaline can actually develop an electrical charge when heated or squeezed. 🔥⚡️
Pretty cool for something you wear around your neck or finger!

So why TWO birthstones?

Opal is the traditional October birthstone, treasured for centuries for its famous “play-of-color” — those shifting rainbow flashes that make every stone look like a tiny galaxy (like this estate opal ring from our inventory) . But opals are relatively soft and delicate, so in 1952 jewelers officially added tourmaline (especially the beloved pink variety) as a tougher, more wearable alternative with an incredible range of colors. Both are equally official — pick your vibe!

His father, a sapphire miner, shrugged and used it as a doorstop.
For nearly ten years it held the family door open.
Then a Los Angeles jeweler spotted a faint copper glimmer inside the “worthless” stone. He bought it for $18,000, studied it for months, and carefully cut away more than 400 carats.
What emerged was the 733-carat Black Star of Queensland — still one of the largest and finest star sapphires ever found. A six-rayed star floating in deep black.

Ever met a horologist?
(That’s huh-ROL-uh-jist, by the way—like “roll” with a fancy “ho” in front and a little “jist” at the end. Not “horror-logist.” We promise there’s no screaming involved… unless a crystal cracks.)
A horologist is a master of time itself: the skilled wizard who brings watches and clocks back to life. Foggy crystals? Stubborn movements? Broken bracelets? They don’t just fix them—they heal them, one tiny gear and spring at a time.
We’re lucky enough to have one of the most talented horologists in the southeast, and the proof is right here on the bench: a whole constellation of watches just back from his bench for their second (or third… or tenth) chance to tick again.
