The part of the store you never see.

Out front there are cases and lights and rings under glass. In the back there is a bench, a microscope, a laser welder, and a jeweler who has been doing this longer than most people have owned their wedding bands.

Having a master jeweler in house changes what we can say yes to. Prong work, shank rebuilds, stone setting, sizing on tricky metals, pearl and bead restringing — repairs other shops send away or turn down. And it never leaves the building, so we can watch it the whole way through.

What's the repair you've been putting off? Tell us and we'll give you an honest read on whether it's worth doing.

Rene Clark said it better than we ever could:

"Forbes Jewelers is a reasonable, professional and friendly place... It was great when they did a custom piece for me that included my mother's engagement ring. It is just beautiful and unique."

Her mother's ring, reset and worn again. That is the whole job, honestly.

If you have a piece like that sitting in a drawer — something with history but not much use in its current form — we would love to hear about it. Whose ring or piece would you bring back to life if you could?

Planning to propose before the end of the year? This is the window.

Fall and the holidays are the busiest stretch for engagements, and the proposals that go smoothly all have one thing in common — the person planning it started early. A custom ring usually needs several weeks from sketch to finished piece, and sourcing a specific stone or getting sizing right adds more. Fine in October. Tight in December.

Come talk it through with us. Bring photos of what she likes, or bring nothing and we will start from scratch — no cost, no commitment, and we will be straight with you about budget.

Currently planning a proposal, or already popped the question?

October is the only month with two birthstones, and they could not be more different.

Opal glows from the inside, and every piece has its own pattern — no two are ever the same. It is softer than a diamond, so it wants a protective setting, but nothing else looks like it.

Tourmaline goes the opposite direction: pink, mint green, deep teal, and watermelon tourmaline, which shifts from pink to green in a single crystal. Pink is getting extra attention this month too, since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Team Opal or Team Tourmaline? Tell us which one you would wear.

What is in your treasure box?

Almost every family has one. A drawer, a box, a pouch tucked away with jewelry nobody has looked at in years. Rings from a grandmother. A watch that stopped. Odd earrings. A chain that broke and never got fixed.

Bring it in and we will go through it with you piece by piece, free of charge, no appointment needed.

We will tell you what you actually have — gold content, stone quality, whether that watch is worth fixing. We will show you what it could become if you want it reset into something you would actually wear. And if selling makes more sense, we will give you an honest number.

Tell us in the comments: what is the oldest piece sitting in yours, and whose was it?

If you were born in October, your birthstone is the only one that cannot be copied.

Sit with that for a second.

Every other stone in our cases has a twin somewhere. Another diamond cut to the same proportions. Another sapphire the same blue.

Not opal. The pattern inside yours formed underground over millions of years and it has never once repeated. Not in the entire history of the stone.

Which is why opal tends to be what people reach for when the point is the person rather than the occasion. A daughter. A mother. Somebody who was never going to be interchangeable either.

October babies get the only birthstone that is genuinely one of a kind.

Come see ours.
