Here are all three wrought iron pieces together and with the bottom section coffee etched. The Sodium Bisulfate (NaHSO4) is on the left, the Muriatic Acid (HCL) is in the center and the 5% Vinegar is on the right. I used the instant coffee my local grocery store had on sale and dissolved as much coffee as I could in boiling water. I kept the temperature about 160F for several hours then left the wrought iron in the etch as it cooled over night. In the morning I washed them off and pat dried them before using the heatg@n to totally dry them.

Over all I think the NaHSO4 was the easiest to work with and gave very good results. The coffee really does add to color but in cleaning it I noticed it is not very tough so I am not sure how it would stand up to wear.

My new stamp designs i commissioned from the truly excellent and exceptional Jera Metal Arts arrived! SQUEEEEEE!!! I’m supposed to be finishing crystal staffs…. But now I just want to immediately make Athames and Swords! The Celtic dragon and Celtic Wolf designs are going to be big! Especially when I add Celtic knotwork, triskelions and triquetras! The sigil of Lucifer will be appearing with the sigil of Lilith on blades of dark duality. You guys specifically requested the Witches Knot! And the crying eye is a future custom sword design commission, but it’s so cool it’s going to be appearing a LOT! 🤣 I’m going to TRY and be disciplined and finish the crystal staffs first… But I often work on two projects at the same time so I might just have to make some iron, brass and copper pendants also. Yeah. Nods. That’s a thing that will be happening starting Sunday.

This time I used sodium bisulfate (NaHSO4) to etch the wrought iron. It is commonly available as pool PH down. I also added hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to the solution. The solution was heated to 120F and as soon as the wrought hit the solution the reaction started so actively it was like a rolling boil. I cleaned it every 15 minutes and rinsed it in distilled water. At one hour there was enough depth I could polish the high points if I wanted. I stopped the reaction at 3.5 hours but the reaction was still going but very mildly. I have included some close up pictures of the final results.
