👑 The Diadems of Puabi — Royal Cemetery of Ur, c. 2450 BCE

More than 4,400 years ago, these elaborate ornaments were created for Puabi, one of the most famous individuals discovered in the Royal Cemetery at ancient Ur in modern-day Iraq.

Made from gold, silver, bitumen, carnelian, and lapis lazuli, the diadems demonstrate the extraordinary wealth and craftsmanship of Early Dynastic Mesopotamia. The use of lapis lazuli is particularly striking—the prized blue stone had to reach Mesopotamia through long-distance trade networks extending toward Central Asia.

Puabi's richly furnished burial, designated PG 800, was uncovered during excavations of the Royal Cemetery of Ur led by archaeologist Leonard Woolley in the 1920s.

A remarkable glimpse into the wealth, artistry, and international connections of Sumer nearly 4,500 years ago.

Today I walked with my dad to get the mail. It's become a daily ritual for him, especially lovely when the weather is this magnificent. There's a bridge in our driveway- the two of us collected the letters, then sat on the bridge to listen to the stream gurgle below... it was quiet, meaningful. It's funny- I don't EVER remember just sitting with my dad as a young one- I'm sure I did. In this chapter of his life and mine, the mundane becomes that much more beautiful.

So, I've been gone for a tick. Many darlings reached out to check in- I'm so very grateful. We're adjusting to our new chapter, one of unforeseen blessings- like the chance to rejuvenate for a few days with our favorite humans on the planet. Walks in the Door County woods do such good for the soul- and for the first time in a few months, the energy to create poked at me again. I bought these emerald and gold teardrops in an antique store not far from our hike- that delicious green resembled the moss on the trees, so of course I wanted to honor them with these earrings. My eldest daughter lent me an AMAZING book that I will be talking more about- but for now, I wanted to share with you darlings and tell you, remember, please: make it a priority to find the feel beautiful.
