It’s to build a kid who still loves the game at 13.
At 14.
At 15.
Because if they burn out before they ever get to find out how good they could become, what did we really accomplish?
The extra tournaments, the pressure, the yelling, the “win at all costs” mindset...none of it matters if the kid quietly starts hating the sport.
Youth baseball should teach toughness.
It should teach discipline.
It should teach kids how to compete.
But it should also protect the joy.
Because the best coaches don’t just develop players.
They help kids keep playing.
And sometimes the biggest win isn’t a trophy on Sunday.
It’s a kid waking up Monday still excited to grab his glove.
