It was 1976 …I was in the 6th grade and our little town of Kingsport •TN was planning a huge Bicentennial celebration at our high school.
My grade at my school would join others from around the city and sing the “ 50 states song “ as part of the event ! It was such a moving experience and I have never forgotten that song ! I told my husband several times in our early years …that surely one day - I would win something for knowing it 🤣
Fast forward to summer - around 10 years ago …and we were driving through East TN around the 4th of July 🎆 I checked my insta feed and saw that my fave bakery in Knoxville , , was offering a package of their holiday cupcakes to anyone who came in and sang that song 😱 I yelped in excitement and told Mark that we needed to make a quick stop in Knoxville …,It was my moment to shine !!!
I can promise …I am no singer and bristle at the thought of public performances…but I had my son in tow - and knew I could score some free treats for him ! I did it and can promise I will never sing in public again ….but it’s one of my most favorite memories of the 4th of July !
