Designer Leigh Hillenmeyer proudly named her jewelry line “Hearne Dry Goods Company” after her great-great-grandfather’s family business. Customers would flock from all around the region to park their model Ts outside the storefront and peruse the fabrics, lace, and fine china held within those painted brick walls. Now well ove

r a century later, the name Hearne Dry Goods Company is resurrected with a multi-purpose. In a nod to the rugged textiles of yesteryear, Leigh crafts necklaces inspired by her father’s nylon sailing straps and a variety of other preppy yet boho chic accouterments. And, as tribute to her forefather’s commitment to fostering community both near and far, a portion of all proceeds support a community health clinic in Lwala, Kenya (www.lwalacommunityalliance.org). With unique vision, Leigh is connecting Louisiana’s past with Lwala’s future, one necklace at a time.
