The ref. 168000 is a “transitional” era for the Sub referred to by collectors as the “triple zero.” It carried some of the best features of the prior ref. 16800 and has an estimated production run of just 7-9 months (‘87-‘88), making it a rare and collectible reference. The primary upgrade to the model was the introduction to grade 904L steel from the prior grade 316L, enhancing strength and corrosion resistance. A short time later the 16610 was introduced with the same materials but leveraged an updated cal. 3135. This particular example, circa ‘88 has remained in fantastic neo-vintage condition with a mint/hands showing warm patina. To boot, the case/bracelet both appear completely unpolished which is difficult to come by in this era. The caseback still retains a factory sticker and the bracelet shows very light stretch, retains 11 links and will fit an approximate 7.25 inch wrist. For anyone looking a top quality Sub with an interesting story to tell, this piece hits all the right notes. Now sold.. Thank you, R!
