Two of Verdura's earliest and most influential designs, the "Theodora" and "Ravenna" Brooches were originally made for style icon Diana Vreeland. Nearly a century later, they remain enduring emblems of the House—bold, colorful, and unmistakably Verdura.

One of Verdura’s earliest and most popular styles was the Ray Brooch, introduced in 1940. An atomic ornament of yellow gold rays wrapped in diamond knots, the Ray Brooch was favored by style icons like Millicent Rogers, Princess Natalie Paley, and Babs Simpson.

Years later, Verdura returned to the theme of the sunburst, incorporating his vibrant rays into the design of a compact. In this iteration, a gleaming sun was set against a yellow gold backdrop.

The Sun motif continues to inspire the House today, its exuberant rays now emblazoned on a modern pendant, cuff, and earclips.

Verdura’s radiant Sun motif shines in this month’s issue of ELLE DECOR.

Drawn from the warmth and grandeur of Fulco di Verdura’s Sicilian childhood, the story pairs the iconic Sun Compact from the Verdura Museum Collection with the Sun Earclips and Morganite Sun Cuff.

Editor in Chief Stellene Volandes beautifully reflects on Verdura’s lifelong fascination with light, architecture, and place, quoting from his memoir, The Happy Summer Days: “...from the two square terraces he could see 'simmering in the summer haze, the distant pinnacles and domes of Palermo...'”

A timeless tribute to the Sicilian sun that inspired one of Verdura’s most enduring motifs.
