While studying fashion at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design (London), Deepa Gurnani beaded couture pieces for Alexander McQueen, Emanuel Ungaro, Fendi, Marjan Pejoski, etc. Working closely with these designers not only enabled Deepa to understand European standards of quality and finish, but also compelled her to experiment with beading and embroidery techniques. Jay

Lakhani, a jewelry designer from the Fashion Institute of Technology (NYC), always dreamt of creating jeweled accessories. Having trained under the head designers of Tiffany and Bulgari, as well as working in the fine jewelry industry with some of the largest retailers and manufacturers for eight years, Jay was always drawn to fashion. With basics and black on the rise in fashion, he was keen to create something distinct and unusual, something that would make a statement and give the wearer a distinct sense of style, glamour and individuality. After their marriage, the two designers collaborated their ideas and launched their label "Deepa Gurnani".

A Founders Introduction ✨

In the atelier of Deepa and Jay, each piece emerges from
their creative crucible. It carries not just the weight of precious materials but the spirit of a rich legacy. In their hands, jewelry becomes a living, breathing narrative - an art form that
transcends time and whispers tales of splendour to those who wear it.

“After marrying and moving to New York City in the early 2000s, I partnered with my husband Jay Lakhani, a jewelry
designer. Unable to travel during my green card process, and with our Artisans in India at risk of losing work, we began creating beaded accessories at home and sending them to India for reproduction. This necessity-led experiment became our first step into accessory design, resulting in an embellished, hand-embroidered collection and the beginning of a shared creative journey.”

“We are passionate about preserving and celebrating the art of the heritage of Indian crafts. As a New York City house of curated and designed luxury, our mission is to refine and elevate traditional craftsmanship through our unique and responsible approach.”
