What an unexpected, beautiful surprise hurricane ( Milton ) brought my way. While I’m acutely aware that it could have brought devastation as it did for so many, we truly lucked out. For this, I/we are so grateful. It’s been a tough year emotionally with the loss of my mom so it felt good to be on the receiving end of some good news. What started out as a sheer panic fueled evacuation turned into an unbelievably special time in Nashville and here at home in NYC with my nearly 87 year dad that I never expected nor imagined.
Today we spent the day at the MET browsing for hours through the Egyptian exhibit, walked many, many city blocks people watching 👀, chatting and of course eating. I’m filled with such gratitude right now. 💖

Excited to be included in this week’s NYmag list of best piercers in NYC🤩 I’ve spent nearly a decade honing my craft working with ages 2 months and up (I also see plenty of adults!) so it’s a great feeling to be part of a list of super talented piercers.

Some piercings from my recent office call💎👂🏼👂🏼. ➡️ I get a lot of requests for large piercing parties and I always turn them down. I WILL do an office or housecall with a max of 3-4 people. Here’s why👉🏼As a professional piercer I like to spend as much time as I need with each client. Often times I’m piercing around old piercings that may or may not be in a great position and/or are partially open, existing scar tissue, clients with a history of infections and/or metal sensitivities. Even if it’s a straightforward piercing without any of the above complications, I still need to ask a lot of questions to determine the best positioning. For example if a client wears large diamond studs then it’s imperative I position the new piercings with enough space to accommodate what the client wears day to day. All of this takes time which IMO is a huge part of the process. Piercing parties can seem like a fun idea to the lay person but once they realize the level of detail required for professionally done piercings they realize this isn’t something that warrants a rush job. The mall piercers can cover that 😉.

How do I know how to place the piercings on a baby’s ears❓First and foremost, my years of piercing thousands of baby ears has given me lots of practice AND the opportunity to see many of these piercings years later when they have a sibling (coming in to get pierced) or they’re now old enough to get a second piercing! Since everyone’s ears are asymmetrical, I always strive for balance. With babies, I’ve found that if the initial piercing is perfectly balanced, the piercing will look great years later when the ear lobe is fully grown. Personally, I think the worst mistake a piercer can make is to place the piercings too low. Those piercings just won’t stand the test of time. For my client in the photo, I would fully expect her piercings to be centered and balanced 20+ years from now. When choosing a piercer for your baby, always go for experience. You want to get this right on the first try.

🙋🏻‍♀️Do you use numbing cream❓How effective is it❓Although I no longer use numbing cream in the office,
some clients will opt to purchase it over the counter (at any pharmacy) and apply it themselves 30 minutes before their appointment. All babies cry during a piercing -it feels similar to a vaccine. Numbing cream does not prevent crying. The good news is that crying usually stops within a minute! ⏱For older kids it can be useful since there is always the added benefit of a placebo effect. Topical lidocaine does numb the skin, but only the outer layer so the sensation of a tiny punch can still be felt. Bottom line- piercing is fast- just a little pinch and it’s over !😊👏🏼👂🏼.

“Can I repierce my ear if I let my old piercing close?” I do a lot of repiercings from either mall vendors and/or inexperienced piercers. Too low piercings, uneven, bad angles etc. Most people mistakenly think they can just stop wearing an earring and the hole will close. Wrong in most cases🙁. Once a piercing has healed, you’re pretty much stuck with it for life. It may shrink, but it won’t close. When the piercing is fully healed- meaning that the scar tissue forming the piercing canal has fully stabilized, the piercing will not close. Why? Scar tissue is avascular meaning it no longer has a blood supply. In order for a wound (a piercing in this case) to close, you need a blood supply to close the wound. Scar tissue can’t fuse together. So, the lesson is- if you don’t like your new piercing, TAKE IT OUT IMMEDIATELY and it’ll close and heal like magic almost overnight. Once you hit the 6month mark your main option is to repierce in a new location. For this client, it worked out because her old piercing was so low it left me adequate space to repierce and match her other ear perfectly. 😊👂🏼💎.
