A New York Times moment.
Feeling deeply grateful to — a true force in our industry whose curiosity, rigor, and love of jewels have shaped so many important stories. But most of all, we’re grateful for her friendship over twenty-five years.
This feature carries a special meaning for us. Long before he became a master jeweler, a young David would race to the front door on Sunday mornings to study Al Hirschfeld’s illustrations — searching for the hidden “NINA,” (his daughter’s name) tucked inside each drawing. That ritual sparked his lifelong fascination with special secrets, structures, and the quiet magic inside objects. (It also led to taking apart a television… which nearly took him apart, too.)
Today, David channels that same childhood wonder into every masterpiece — hiding a single pink diamond in every jewel, weaving cerebral, intimate details only a few will ever notice.
As we close out 2025 and continue shaping the next chapter of DAVIDALAN — a vision we hope will stand among the next great American high jewelry brands — being included in this story, and seeing our Milky Sapphire Necklace in its pages, is a moment we’ll treasure.
