OFF THE CANVAS: PORTRAITS REIMAGINED
In the Fragonard Room, Sabrina steps into a world of painted portraits, gilded interiors, and the romantic imagination of Fragonard. Her striking black silhouette and 22-karat gold jewels feel almost painted into the scene.
For this shoot at the Frick, I imagined contemporary women entering into conversation with the paintings and decorative arts. Rather than recreating the portraits, we explored what happens when the jewelry leaves the canvas and becomes part of a woman’s own story.
Sabrina is not only one of the faces of this project, but also a goldsmith I trained and an important part of the Donna Distefano team. Her place in this story reflects the continuity of a craft, passed from one pair of hands to another, and carried forward in new ways.
