Marla Aaron

Marla Aaron We are a rebellious little company and we make jewelry and other objects in New York City. They are beautiful and people seem to love them.

Marla launched the collection in 2012 when her combined obsessions with bridges, hardware and jewelry could no lon “We tell stories with our jewelry. The sturdiness of a carabiner. The timeless shape of a padlock that has changed little in hundreds of years. And how these symbolize the enduring ties of love and family. Connections, both physical and figurative, are the foundation of how I think ab

out fine jewelry.”

Inspired by the majesty of bridges, the simplest of hardware elements, and the place where fashion and art converge with Old World craftsmanship. The necklaces, which began with a sterling silver lock (cast from an industrial carabiner), allow wearers to personalize their pieces with chains, stones or pearls that can be worn long, or wrapped as chokers and bracelets. Prices start at $100 for the Baby Lock. All the pieces are meant to mix and match with pieces from one's own collection as a personal statement. Everything is crafted in the USA.

One thing about us? We are always asking you to use our jewelry to create in personal ways. One could say Knot the String Project takes that idea to new levels but does it really? Buy offering you components — Locks and Chains and rings that do things and all kinds of separate pieces, the very foundation of our work is asking you to walk with us.And if you want us to help, we do that too. But my thinking has always been that when you see our pieces , it will unlock (forgive me) your own ideas about how you want to wear your jewelry. OK? We’re not done yet.

First and foremost
Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers!

Storytime.
I have told this story often in person but I don’t think I’ve done it here for you before.

At perhaps one of the hardest moments for me as a single mom— emotionally, financially…. in every way, I got invited to a very fancy dinner that I had no business being at.

When I arrived, I saw that I had been seated next to a famous, wealthy celebrity kind of person. I could only think “what in god’s name am I possibly going to talk about with this person? We have absolutely nothing in common. I shouldn’t have come.”

I had a lovely time talking to her. It turned out she was also a single mom. Who knew? In the end we talked about the fundamental loneliness of single motherhood. I mean we talked about other things but I left with that thought. And I realized that the experience of single motherhood is specific and universal in many ways— rich, poor and everything in between. It’s why we put an “!” on the sterling silver Heartlock we give to single moms across the country (and the UK too now) for the !!! of motherhood.
It’s a badge of honor.
Literally.

I hope you enjoy this little recap of our fifth annual luncheon for some special single moms through the incredible .
The wonderful chef served up a delicious meal and brought gorgeous gifts and helped us make sure every mama left with a bouquet of flowers.
We had a special visitor. I am still getting over that. (Thank you for bringing the one and only )
🙏🥹💝💐🌼🌻🌺

The phrase “that’s very editorial” is lifted straight from the world of fashion editors and stylists who arrange pieces from collections of jewelry, clothes and objects in ways that they will have maximum impact artistically not commercially. (Sometimes they even make that distinction and say “oh that’s too commercial”… we will save that breakdown for another time.)

How they bring things together is about surprise and delight and reveling in the beauty of objects.

I’m here to say we can do this with our own cadre of things every single day, however we wish.

Because most interesting things are often comprised of the most surprising. Rubber and diamonds as an example of this.

Do I think someone will do this if they don’t own a jewelry company that makes rubber Locks ? I don’t really know.

Do I think it’s stunning? Yes. Yes I do. I think it’s pretty darn editorial….
Do this.
Do that.
But most importantly I hope you have pieces of jewelry you can assemble over and over again in ways that will surprise you.
“À la folie” for us all….
An Allstone Musgrave Lock.
Some rubber Locks..

This or That, feat. Zoe!!! If you’ve been with us you know that Zoe is a styling masterpiece-maker (body chains, looping it in the back, she can ‘Beautiful Mind’ her way around our collection like no one else)…AND she’s who keeps track of every single piece of jewelry we make…needless to say, this was a fun round. ♥️

The Freeform Heartlock began its life in 18k gold only. It’s a doughy, almost cartoon-like heart, and we made it in white, yellow, and rose gold.

Then last year we made Rubber Locks, and we decided to make the Freeform Heartlock in Rubber, because we couldn’t resist...and THEN...because we made it in rubber, we thought that it wasn’t really fair of us to not make it in sterling silver.

So now you have it in sterling silver and gold and rubber — a delicious little family.

There’s something very light and airy and playful about the sterling silver version... we think you’re going to have a lot of fun.

PS. Sorry for my cold…😂🙏

What kind of jewelry company closes the Saturday the week before Mother’s Day to volunteer and the posts a video about vegetables the next day with nary a piece of jewelry in sight? I guess this company.
Welcome to the Vegetable Show. I am your host. The show that is almost about nothing but vegetables. With a very serious shoutout to who is my latest inspiration in my Sunday cooking adventures.
Some notes.
Every Sunday for more than 20 years now I try to knock out at least 5 dishes on Sunday so I can just live my life during the week and not worry. It’s a great practice.
And … well… eat your vegetables ok?

Xoxoxo,
Marla
PS . we promise to tell you more about what we did on Saturday….
PPS. Shout out to for throwing this down with me.

You asked for more...*drumroll* Let’s play This or That with Anthony from our production team who shepherds our jewelry from idea to completion...some of you might know him as “the guy who doesn’t like it when you go through his cart.” I digress...anyway, let’s ride.

The story of Our Lock Bracelet is really the story of an idea that took its time....for years we had the Hard Hook Bracelet, and in theory it was supposed to do more than it actually did.

We always imagined a telescope mechanism—something that could open and close and transform the bracelet into a proper playground for our Locks. The idea was clear. The execution… less so. What finally emerged is Our Lock Bracelet, which is really a feat of engineering.

The bracelet itself is flexible—not floppy, but intelligent. It moves diagonally so it can flex comfortably around your wrist and accommodate a wide range of our Locks without feeling rigid or fussy. And then there’s the telescope: two retractable components–one loop, one hook, that you gently squeeze from one side, allowing you to snap a Lock onto the hook to close the bracelet. It’s simple when you use it, which is the highest compliment you can give something complicated.

We love it with a Musgrave; we love it with two Heartlocks. We love it with Medium Locks (no stoned closures unless you plan to attach it to another Lock!). This is one of those pieces we’re going to explain and over-explain and make tutorials for, all in the spirit of giving you the most options for play.

We are proud to offer it in 3 different sizes and in sterling silver and gold.

Our Lock Bracelet launches tomorrow at 11 AM. A fun fact about this bracelet is that when it was in product development, we called it. Universal Lock Bracelet and then we realized that we could not possibly, with all of the thousands of locks we make, have one bracelet that could fit every single one of these locks so here’s a compilation of some of the ways we love to wear it. We really love with it with Medium Locks. A Chubby Medium (no stoned closures!) works too. Two Heartlocks linked together? Even better…a Regular Lock? You’re so in the game…a Musgrave Lock is completely effortless to snap on anx really beautiful. We’re going to probably bang you over the head ad nauseam about all the ways to wear this bracelet in the days to come, but all you need to know for now is that it plays beautifully; you will have so much fun with it. It features a telescope mechanism…it’s flexible…it launches tomorrow in silver and gold.
