Elizabeth Garvin’s approach to design is bold and contemporary, with strong architectural lines. The granddaughter of a painter, daughter of an architect and engineer, and raised in a creative household, her style is a hybrid mix of fine, art and fashion jewelry. Elizabeth graduated with honors from New York University in 1986 with further studies at Parson’s School of Design and Massachusetts Col
lege of Art. she began setting up her own jewelry studio in 1988, Elizabeth Garvin Design. Over the following 2 decades she developed a unique voice and vision in the world of contemporary craft, and applied her talents both in design and engineering to the creation of jewelry with unparalleled quality, diversity and style, in price points that were unexpectedly affordable. Over the years, she has developed strong relationships with many top retailers through her dedication to quality, service and the partnership between artist and gallery. A predominantly a self taught jeweler with great technical curiosity, she is driven to continually innovate and move her design forward. In recent years her creative vision began to diverge, her “play time” in the studio began to focus more on fine jewelry materials and techniques, metallurgy and gemology. Surrounded by a bustling silver production jewelry business, a slower, quieter body of work was emerging. These new works are rendered in oxidized silver, 18k gold and 950 palladium, with the dramatic color variations of true elements in their natural state, set with a broad palette of diamonds. “Diamonds are infinite, in their colors, their formations, and in the ways you can set them. These are
dream materials to work with.”
It became clear in 2011 that this was the new direction for her brand, and Elizabeth began developing the first collection to launch Elizabeth Garvin Fine in 2012, the StormMass series. “I grew up on the coast of New England, nature there is large scale, and moody. Weather patterns and ocean currents have always fascinated me, the interplay between them and the natural geometry that results. My fine jewelry collection, StormMass, explores this imagery and expresses my appreciation for it’s beauty, strength, and frailty.”
StormMass, the first of 6 collections currently in development in the studio of Elizabeth Garvin Fine, began winning awards* even before it’s official launch. The second collection, “Links” will be previewed at JCK Las Vegas in June. Presented in fully merchandised, thematic collections with a strong focus on earrings, her unique vision of fine jewelry is designed and priced to be a woman’s gift to herself. “My customer is well traveled, and has seen a lot, they are looking for something different, something they haven’t seen before, something that is real, and that they care about.” Through years of experimentation with technique and visual language, her work is simply made differently than other jewelry, and as a result, offers a fresh choice to the luxury customer.
