My personal approach to styling plants consists of cramming as many into a space as possible.

This may or may not be your approach too 😅 (plant hoarders sound off). That’s why routine pest maintenance is key to keeping your collection happy. Bugs are a natural part of owning houseplants, and as long as you’re proactive about pest management, it’s not a problem. Don’t fret yet!
My hot tips for keeping pests and disease at bay are as follows;

- quarantine new arrivals!!
As a frequent purchaser of plants for myself (hi, I’m Olivia) I know it’s important to preemptively treat and quarantine all new plants before they go with the rest of my collection, no matter where they come from. This helps prevent the spread of unnoticed disease and pests.

- rinse your plants as often as you can!!
This can look different for different plants and schedules, but my personal fave is the shower. I rinse my plants thoroughly (on no real schedule because I’m a disorganized mess lol) to emulate their natural environment, where they’d be receiving a cleansing rainfall. Avoid washing directly into the soil; I hold pots at a tilt so pests go down the drain and not into my substrate.

There are many great resources for this out there, but if y’all want info on specific pests/diseases, let me know in the comments. Knowing the signs of disease leads you to the proper course of action- and we’ll get into that later!
