Flag Day is observed every year on June 14 to honor the adoption of the American flag in 1777, when the Second Continental Congress adoption of the United States flag passed a resolution declaring that the flag of the new nation would feature thirteen stripes and thirteen stars, representing the original thirteen colonies.

Flag Day is more than just recognizing a symbol. The American flag represents the ideals that helped shape the United States freedom, unity, resilience, sacrifice, and the enduring belief that people from many different backgrounds can come together as one nation.

For many Americans, the flag also honors those who have served and sacrificed to protect the freedoms it stands for from military members and first responders to everyday citizens working to strengthen their communities.

Flag Day is a time to reflect on where we’ve been, where we are, and where we hope to go. No matter our differences, the flag remains a powerful reminder that we share a common home, a shared history, and the responsibility to keep working toward a stronger future.

Can you believe this weather? If you need to come inside for a break; stop by located inside Pony Village Mall near Ross. I’m open today (Sat 6/13) from 10-6; but closed this Sunday (6/14).

🌡️ First Heat Wave of the Season: Coos County, Please Prepare

The National Weather Service in Medford is forecasting the first heat wave of the season for Southwest Oregon, with the warmest conditions expected Sunday and Monday.

For North Bend, Coos Bay, Coquille, and surrounding Coos County communities, temperatures may reach 75–85° near the beaches and 85–95° inland. Sunday may be especially warm along the coast, with potential record heat in North Bend.

Please take simple precautions:

✅ Drink plenty of water
✅ Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day
✅ Check on older adults, neighbors, and anyone without reliable cooling
✅ Never leave children or pets in vehicles
✅ Bring pets inside or make sure they have shade and water
✅ Watch for signs of heat illness, including dizziness, nausea, headache, heavy sweating, or confusion

A cooling trend is expected by mid-week, but until then, please plan ahead and take care of each other.

Today’s tshirt of the day says:
“Sunshine and Tan Lines”.

Well, for me it’s more like:
“Sunburn & Peel!

I wear a watch so I can prove to people that I really am tanner than normal. (I call it “the blinding white glare”.)

But I do love the colors of this shirt. 😁
