Amethyst (Purple Quartz)
Mineral Family: Quartz
Chemical Composition: Silicon dioxide (SiO₂)
Color: Violet to deep purple (caused mainly by trace amounts of iron and natural radiation during formation)

Origin / Where It Comes From:
Amethyst is found in many locations around the world, with some of the most famous sources being:

* Brazil 🇧🇷— especially the Minas Gerais region, famous for large amethyst crystals and geodes. Brazilian amethyst is widely recognized in the gemstone trade.
* Uruguay 🇺🇾— known for exceptionally deep purple amethyst, often occurring in large volcanic geodes.
* Zambia 🇿🇲 — known for rich, dark purple material with strong color saturation.
* Other sources include Mexico 🇲🇽 , United States 🇺🇸 , and parts of Europe.

Geological Formation:
Amethyst forms inside cavities of volcanic rock. Over millions of years, mineral-rich fluids flow through empty spaces in the rock, allowing quartz crystals to slowly grow. The purple color develops from trace elements and natural processes inside the crystal structure.

History & Symbolism:
Amethyst has been valued for thousands of years. Ancient civilizations used it in jewelry, carvings, and royal objects. The name comes from the ancient Greek word amethystos, meaning “not intoxicated,” because ancient Greeks believed it had a connection with preventing drunkenness.

Traditional / Cultural Associations (not scientific claims):
Many cultures associate amethyst with:

* calmness and clarity
* meditation and spiritual practices
* protection symbolism
* wisdom and intuition

Collector Description Example:
“This amethyst is a natural quartz crystal formed over millions of years inside volcanic rock. Known for its distinctive violet color, amethyst has been prized throughout history as a gemstone of beauty and symbolism. Famous deposits from Brazil, Uruguay, and Zambia have made amethyst one of the world’s most recognized and collected minerals.”
